Restomod e-brake.

I remember seeing a thread or two about installing a hand leaver type e-brake on the tranny tunnel, but I couldn't find it. Anyone know were some info on this is? I have an e-brake set up that I can plunder from an 87 GT, so I would like to look into this.

i started a thread like this ages ago, but didn't get much feedback. i don't think the thread still exists, i tried searching for it. but as long as you can route the cables, you can put it pretty much anywhere.

That's what I though. I was wondering how I would run it around the driveshaft, but what I am thinking of doing is looking at how it is set up on the 87 GT, and using that as a basic idea. Did you ever try/do it?

I have often thought of doing it but with one of the units from Lokar, I think a nice chrome unit would be a nice touch to the interior.

I have the late model mustang E-brake set up in my 66. Ill try and get some pictures of it for you sometime this week, along with the parts I used. It was a simple simple install and took only about a hour or so. Its alot nicer than the factory pull and twist set up.

did yours require any welding? i was jazzed when i read that VMF thread about the guy only spending $40 for the whole deal, but i have no access to a welder [nor do i know how to weld].

Yes, I had to do some welding. That set up on the VMF was really a cheasy set up in my opinion. I would never trust anything wedled to braided steel cable to hold any amount of wieght. The sheath was held in place with hose clamps ect. Just didnt look like a good set up. Mine cost close to the same but You have to track down some one who sells wire rope and supplies and who will crimp the fittings on for you. Ill post some pics asap

yeah, i did it. however, i still haven't gotten the cable tension to work right (this is with a versailles axle swap, and to be honest i haven't touched it since it was installed...).

didn't do any welding, simply bent two brackets and mounted them to the tunnel and bolted the 89 e-brake handle to the floor.

as far as getting it to work, my roomate has an 86 GT that he did a full disc swap onto (remember, 79-93 are all drum rear and 94+ are 4wheel disc) and in doing so, he had to weld a piece of the e-brake handle together to get the proper cable travel. might be the mod necessary to get it to work... there are pics on my site of the brackets and e-brake mounted in my car.

mid 80's handle

I did it using a mid to late 80's Stang brake handle. I didn't have to wled anything though. I just bolted it to the floorpan with a reinforcing plate below for rigidity. then I made my own console around it. that let me keep the handle real close to the floor.

shouldn't need to modify the handle unless it's for a disc swap.

I have 10 X 2.5" rear drums. Just tweaked the bolt mounting points a little to fit the floor a little better, extended the adjustment rod (actually made a new one) to fit with the existing cables, and opened the floor pan up around the ratching mechanism (sp?) for clearance.
