And the Discovery Channel (owns TLC) has plenty of money floating around to fund these productions. I spent a couple years recently working on their new headquarters in Silver Spring, MD. Half a million sqare foot office space with upgrades like marble imported from Israel for the bathroom counters, some flooring and exterior panels, bamboo flooring from Japan, complete with two guys from Japan flown in to install, and a host of other items. Total project cost was around $140 to 160 million, quite a bit for an office building that size.
They did have a few cool things, though. The hot dog cart dragster that Jesse Jmames built on Monster Garage was on display in their main lobby.
