Doing the switch from flat tappet to a roller cam in my 68 302 block (352 stroker). I have already purchased roller lifters (for the older blocks) and a bronze dizzy gear.

I found this cam retainer with roller bearing or race that is suppose to be made for a roller cam. Is this any good (newbie to the roller cam stuff)? Should I just look for a steel retainer?

I prefer steel, but the bronze dizzy gear was a deal on eBay.

I always questioned the bronze gear (which I thought was a softer material), but I know they have been running these things since the 80's without any major issues. Should I be that concerned with a weekend cruiser?

Maybe not, but you would do well to check both the gear and your oil once in a while to make sure it isn't going away. A steel gear will be maintainence free, though.

If it's just a fun car that doesn't get flogged at the track 50 weekeds a year, you should do just fine with the stock cam retainer plate. Like D. Hearne said, go with it if you can get one that doesn't need block machining. Otherwise, skip it.

I'm jealous that you have two fastbacks, BTW. :nice:
