reverse in a T-56 (viper-spec)

Just got a brand new Viper T-56 from D&D Performance. Having some problems with reverse. Its my understanding that there's some kind of electronic gate between 5/6 and R, and that you can either wire it up to a switch or the brake or you can just muscle through it. Right now I'm just muscleing through it.

Its not too hard, harder some days than others, but once I'm through it and and I try to go up into gear, it can be really hard. Sometimes I have to throw my body weight into it to get it into gear. Othertimes it's about the same as crossing over from 5/6.

So can anyone tell me why this is? Is it part of the lockout mechanism? Or is my transmission messed up?

Yeah I know about the lockout. My question is does anyone have problems AFTER getting past the lockout, going up into the actual gear. Is this a gear-related problem or is that still the lockout holding me back.

Again, sometimes it's not too hard, sometimes it simply won't go. Once I even threw my body against it, got it to move a little, thought it was in gear, then when I went to back up all I got was grinding. I was careful about it, because I was suspicious that it wasn't in all the way, so I don't think I hurt anything.
