Ring wash from running too rich????

I have heard something about if you have a carb the dumps to much fuel (runs rich) that it can "wash the rings out" of a motor.. I dont exactly know what the phrase "wash the rings out" means exactly, But I guess it would make them not seal as well. I asked this in here since you guys deal with carbs more on the older stangs and I guess this is mostly a carb related problem. Is this a major problem that I should look out for? I have a 750 holley D/P on my 88 and it runs too rich right now, I havent had a chance to tune it right yet. Should I not run it anymore until it is jetted down? Basically I just need more information about this problem.

It washes the oil off the cylinder walls, which in turn wears the rings out a lot faster. Apparently.

exactly right. get your carb jetted down asap;
1: because you are wasting fuel
2: to avoid wearing the rings excessively

To add to the problem, if you are running to rich, eventually yoou will start fouling plugs, causing more fuel to get into the oil.., get it tuned.
p.s. Parked my 66 and waiting for professional tuner to set up the carb and
timing corrrectly.

Also, if you overcarb a new motor, the rings will never seat properly. I have made that mistake.

I want to get the car dyno tuned here soon. But I would like to get it pretty close to jetted right before I take it down.
