Build Thread "Rising from Ashes" 94 Cobra build thread

So after reading for the last 5 hours through 73 pages, and almost 8 years of your build thread. It has been said about 100 times already but I’m going to say it again. You have payed 100% more attention to detail than any other car enthusiast/builder that I have ever seen. I hate the way that your build started with your old cars, and I know almost exactly how you felt. My last mustang was in the path of a tornado during the build process, but I did have the opportunity to finish what I started out doing to it before I sold it which I have kicked myself in the but for the last 4 years over. I have owned, and built multiple mustangs over the last 17 years, but never to the extent of what you have done with this car as far as the powder coating and small detail stuff.
I found your thread while looking at 94 cobra builds since I just purchased a 94 cobra to get back into building another mustang after having kids, paying off bills, and buying my current house forced me to sell my last one. You have given me lots of Ideas to throw at my new build, so with all of this being said thank you for the inspiration and motivation.
I’m kind of glad that I just found your thread yesterday instead of starting 7 years ago because the wait would have killed me!!!

One little question for you that hasn’t been asked in the last 73 pages. I’m currently looking at buying a tig welder so I can do my own welding on smoothing the engine bay, and welding intake tubes/roll cage. What kind of welder have you been using to do all of your work.

Yea I looked it up last night. He is also on another forum that I’ve been a member of for a long time just didn’t ever see any of his post on there till last night www.sn95forums.com

I'm not sure what Kevin uses but when I did the tuck'n smooth job on my old notchback I used a Lincoln 140 MIG welder. Buy extra sheet metal to use for practicing and dialing in your welders settings. I found that I was using too thick of wire and going down to a .03/.027 wire helped a lot. I was able to turn my welder down a little with smaller wire and a little extra gas and it helped prevent burn through and gave me perfect penetration. Another tip is to get you some copper. Welds do not stick to copper so you can hold copper to the backside of holes and fill them in.

Thanks, I think I’m going to buy a tig welder. Less weld spatter, and I will be able to weld in a cage, or intake tubing and stuff later.

I’d vote for a multiprocess unit-mig and tig,be very handy when some jobs don’t require the need to be a Dab Master lol

Thanks man. I appreciate all the kind words and all the time devoted to checking out my thread. I’m no longer on any forums except this one. I was on the other one for a while supporting my customer who posted on there but I never have much time for stuff. I update Facebook, IG and this forum mainly. As far as a welder goes, I’ve continually upgraded over the years and now use a commercial grade one that allows us to do everything including widening wheels and would run in the thousands. But for home garage purposes, I’d get a Lincoln Squarewave TIG 200. It’s a good multiple purpose welder and will also do aluminum.

My daughter was born in April 2011. In Nov. 2011 my wife and I decided we needed a getaway to ourselves and we went to Asheville. I remember finding this thread one night at the hotel and I stayed up reading the then 20+ pages and being so sucked in.

My daughter is going on 8 now, lol.
