Rivet Question

That is what I mean. Pull rivets are a pain in the @$$. I would prefer to buck rivets, and I really hate bucking rivets...

What ever size you need... I would guess 1/4" would be close

The beauty of doing custom stuff is that you get to make it up as you go... :nice:

All the holes that the rivets go in, i can put carriage bolts in those holes.

I'm not putting the bolts into anything it shouldnt be right?

Also 1/4 Diameter but what about the length?

You need the nuts to go under the bolt.. u cant get your hand under where all the rivets are suppose to go. so that would'nt work.

Plus how do you put in carriage bolts?

carriage bolts are round headed bolts with a sq part just below the round head.

your using the carriage bolts in place of the rivets.

lenght should be ..material + nut + 3 threads.

the same as any other bolt.. threw the hole and nut on the bottom side.

If it isn't possible to get to the back side of the bolt, then the carriage bolts won't work.

I guess I'm not sure what rivets are being installed...

A Picture of what you are doing would help, I looked in the Service Manual on installing the Nose on an LX, they list the Rivets as P/N 388664-S 100, it calls for 17 Rivets for the install.

YEs the old rivets have been drilled out, and the new ones that would fit were put in. I only have a few in right now because most of the rivets have a problem staying in they just dont fit in their right..

That's why i said i thought i need bigger rivets... like 5/16" or 3/8"

so you have drilled out the old rivets ............and most of the new ones fit but not all of them fit?

Provided that the old Rivets were drilled out with the correct size drill bit, the factory holes may be slightly larger to allow you to position the nose in the exact place you want, once you pull the Rivets its not going to move.

OK thanks for the advice..

Question I was looking on 50resto.com at the rivets, they sell 21 of them for 18.95 plus shipping.

I only need like 5 or so.

Could i go to any hardware store and all I need is 1/4" (Diameter???) Rivets or what?

Also for the washers, when im at the hardware store do i take the rivet and put the rivet thru the washer and see which one it goes tight/snug in?

Like for instance in this picture http://i24.ebayimg.com/03/i/06/83/ce/f9_1_b.JPG , I would take the black ended part and put that part in the washer, and just find a washer that the black ended part fits snug/tight in, correct?

are you going to be removing the bumper cover so you can put the washer on the rivets because some of them are in really hard to reach places?
are you replacing all the rivets, because shakerhood said his manual said there were 17 rivets?
