So a few months ago I saw that rockauto.com had their wagner v-8 foxbody mustang brake pads on clearance. So I figured I would get a good deal on some pretty good pads, so I bought 6 sets. I got them in and checked them out and they were all fine looking so I left them in the box. Well this was back in september, I went to put them on last week and they are the wrong pads. They are for a 4cyl mustang, which I obviously do not need.
My order form, receipt, and their website all say that they are for my 1987 ford mustang gt 8 cyl.
So I call the company and they look into it and say it has been too long for them to take them back. I informed them that I would be letting the better business bureau know that they were unwilling to fix a problem that lay solely on their company's shoulders. I also let them know that I would be letting all 10 or so forums that I am on that they were not willing to make it right.
so that is what I am doing, IMO they screwed me and I have 6 sets of 4cyl brake pads that I cannot even use.

Why did you buy 6?!? Christ, you might change your pads half that many times over the life of the car!

Sucks to hear about your situation, though.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing. Why did you buy so many sets? You dont go through pads THAT fast... unless you hammer your brake pedal all the time. Put'em up on ebay and sell them, or find some 4 holers taht some neighborhood people are running as beaters and make them a deal ..

I agree that Rock auto should correct their mistake. BUT, they are right in the fact that you cannot return them . Read the return policy. You waited 6-7 months before even attempting an install. I'm sure its 30-90 days, as long as the pads were not installed. If installed then they cannot be returned ... period. You waiting that long to install and then trying to return.. it's like me and my rear Eibach sway bar. I waited 3 years to install it. who's fault was that... my own. The bar is bent too much from the factory. Not a damn thing I can do with that bar. If I would have noticed this when I got it, then yeah... I could have returned it.

I fail to see the problem from Rock Auto's side. They made a mistake on their site, it happens. You failed to verify that they were the correct part for six or seven months, so now the problem is solely on your shoulders. You should've checked sooner. They would have fixed the issue had you responded in a timely manner.

In my book, if I buy something on "clearance", there are going to no returns, all sales final. They call it "clearance" because they're clearing out the inventory at vastly reduced prices to make room for new stock. If the problem had been brought to their attention at the time, I'm sure they would have made it right. Several months later, well... maybe you should buy a four cylinder Mustang.

as seller,it's their responsibility to ship the correct part.
they made a mistake.

but, their return policy is clearly stated.

as buyers, its our responsibility to know what were buying.
and to make sure what we received is what we payed for,in a timely fashion.
you made a mistake.

the seller cannot know there is a problem if not informed of one.

would it have been cool on their part if they replaced the parts months later?
yes.

were they under any obligation to.
no.

this should serve as a lesson to you,
check your parts as soon as you get them.

thats what i do,when buying from any source.

i ordered some pinion bearings and crush sleves the other day from rockauto.
when they get here,i'll check part #'s like i always do to ensure i got what i payed for.

if not,i'll call immediately.

it's a little thing i like to call "Personal Responsibility"

I had done a similar thing. I ordered tail lights and projector head lights for my truck one year for Christmas. They were presents from my wife to me. I got them in November. I never opened them until Christmas day. They were both damaged. It was thinking I was screwed, because it had been so long. Luckily they sent me new ones after I shipped the broken one back. It was about $300. In my opinion I think Rock Auto should take them back. They had the wrong part # listed it is totally their fault.

I know I posted it on a lot of web sites, and I also know that I should have checked part numbers. But to me that does not lay the blame on me. Like I said on a couple other sites, take parts back to autozone, oreilly or something that have not been installed or used and they will take them back regardless.
The only difference in the pads is the bottom of the pad is not rounded and they are a little to short in length.
IMO if you are a business that misrepresented a part that was listed, sent the wrong part, and the customer has a receipt that STILL states the wrong part number, they should take it back.

For one, I did not make a mistake. They did. The parts look very similar. It's a little thing I like to call "business Responsibility." False advertising of a product.

False Advertising?

Thats a stretch. It sounds like a mistake, and due to the time frame they can't, or won't try and work with making it better. It sounds like they are covered, due to their policy. Whether right or wrong, not sure as there are 3 sides to all stories.

Sorry about the wring pads.

eh
i dont see "false advertising".

the bearings i need are part #M802048.

they look very similar to carrier bearings.
so,
it my responsibility to check the box,and the part when they arrive.

i know what i'm buying,i'll check to ensure i get what i pay for.

it's a huge problem these days, not taking responsibility for your own actions.

if you had noticed that you bought part A,paid for part A,but they sent you part C.
and you reported the mix up,within their return period.
you would not be in this situation.

too much time has passed.

so i'll say it again,
they screwed up sending the wrong part.
you screwed up by not noticing/waiting too long.

i,for one,will continue using rockauto.

anyways,thats enough arguing for me.
i'm here to learn, and teach when i can.

End of story. Lesson learned, albeit the hard way.
