rocker arm play

i just installed some 1.6 rr. (scorpion) and all torqued/shimmed down, i can push down on some and it moves like there is a spring where the lifter is. not all do this, and it dosent take too much effort to do.. (just did valvecover gaskets on my fathers stock 87' and they dont do this.)
the engine has been sitting for a while (no oil) so would i be safe to assume, one i start it, and it builds oil pressure, i will be fine? its probably doing this because of the hyd. lifters??
the lifters have been used in the car before, and had oil running through them..

the lifters will drain down. when you start the car back up the will re prime and the play will be taken back up. if you hear a noticably loud clacking after it runs for a few minutes you might have an issue then. you pretty much hit the nail on the head.

i ran into a similar problem a while back.

If you're overly concerned about it, you could prime your oil pump to make sure you're good to go. My brand new lifters did the same thing, since I just installed them basically dry and primed the pump before starting it.

What I do, is pour a small amount of oil on stop of the rockers before I put the valve covers back on. Makes a huge difference and you don't get those noises.

no need to prime the oil pump at all. Just dump a little oil in the rocker and you're good to go.

When you install even brand new lifters, they tell you to NOT pour oil in them or submerge them in oil before install. They are supposed to be started dry.

This makes no sense. They are going to get oil anyway. What's the difference?

The hydraulic lifters are probably no longer preloaded or filled with oil. If that's the case then the push rods would push down into them pretty easy. Should not be an issue once you start the car and the lifters fill with oil again.

This is how 5.0 mustang & super fords mag says to do them too.
