Allright so all the guys that are spinning bearings and blowing their 99-00 4.6's... How much oil are you running?
Im running 5 quarts, which is correct by the dipstick and owners manual but I still have people say 6 quarts is right, no matter what the owners manual or dipstick says. I could see being a quart low and beating on the engine leading to spun bearings...
So is there some kind of connection here, or is it just weird that everyones 99-00 is blowing up?

Dude I have an 01 GT and I just spun a bearing earlyer today and my motors toast now. I'm a tech at a dealership and I know its 6 qts of oil. I just changed it friday and the motor went on me while cruzing at 35 mph in 4th gear today. It sucks I've only got 68,000 on the original motor. I total feel your pain. I dont know if it was a problem with the design or not but I will find out more tommorrow when I call Fords tech hotline from work. I hope you have an extended warrenty like I do, right now its worth every bit of the $1700 I spent for it.

Are you a Ford tech? If so make sure you take any mods off the car just in case they send a inspector out. One of our techs got his warrenty voided becuase he thought they would not send a inpector out. Cost him 5800 bucks.
BTW. The only really common problem with the modular motor is the spark plug issues.
Your 01 takes 6 qt's??? mine takes 5 qt's Well anyways that one extra quart if yours takes 5 is not going to be the root cause of your motor spinning a bearing.
Did either of you with spun bearings notice any detonation even part throttle.. That can wipe out rod/main bearings in no time.
I found that its not a common problem but it has happened to a few ppl. I already removed my program and all my time slips and racing gear that I keep in the car. I heard about the spark plugs though they said that is a problem thats the reason they updated the spark plugs part # to a plug with more threads. So if you do a tune up on your stang make sure its the plugs with about an inch on threads on em.
So you're telling me high RPM's for a long time are bad? Found out the hard way yesterday driving against a Corvette. Now I'm hoping to find a shop to put a new crank in and bearings for a relatively good price. Anybody have an idea on how many hours of labor it would take to replace the crank and bearings?
