i have done quite a few searches here and am looking to replace my stock rings, pistons, and connecting rods in my 4.6. I think I plan on keeping my stock crank. what are some sites for a decent pair of rods and pistons that are already balanced? about how much should i pay for the rods/pistons/rings?

about how much for a machine shop to hone out each cyclinder too? a rough estimate would help.

do rods and pistons need balanced? or just the crank?

I picked up my set at www.modularperformance.com My kit utilized the re-use of my stock crank along with a set of Diamond Pistons and Manley H-Beam Rods. This set up is good for around 600rwhp and they’ve got a steel crank option that will take even more power still.

The rods and pistons will come pre balanced within a fraction of a gram to one and other. You will however need to send the crankshaft out (usually with the rest of the rotating assembly) to be rebalanced, as the aftermarket internals are a good bit heavier than the stockers.

Look to spend around $1,100-$1600 on the rods, pistons and bearings (depending on the make) and another $200 or so to have the crank balanced.

i checked out mp.com and they don't have any pistons/rods available. also, did you install your forged internals yourself? how are they holding up?
You called them and they told you they didn't have any available, or you just looked on their site and didn't see any listed? Unless things have changed in the very recent future, they're moving rotating assembly's off the shelf like hot cakes there. You'll probably need to call them to find out which ones they offer. Ask for John. Other than myself, I can think of at least a dozen others who've bought their bottom end components from them.

....and yes, I installed mine myself. They go together just like any other engine. Just make sure you've got yourself a detailed service manual that provides you with the necessary torque specs and clearances. :)
