can you use the parts out of an 89 5.0 to convert my 289 to a roller cam or do you have to just but a roller conversion?

sorry bud, you cant do that. You will need retro fit lifters or a retrofit-smaller-base-circle camshaft. Both are price. For what you pay for the retro lifters, you can pick up a used roller shortblock!
yeah i have a 89 5.0 out of a mustang with 40000 miles but i was just wanted to keep the 289 but maybe i will use the 302 now

They have a price, but if you're wanting a roller cam shaft (and I wish I had gone that route...) they are simpler IMO.
