Has anyone used the roller spring perches? Are they worth the $250 and why? I completed the Shelby drop and heard they help with the suspension geometry on lowered cars??? My other front suspension parts include 620 springs and Koni shocks. I also boxed my upper and lower control arms for strength. Thanks.

2bav8 linked to an article on Opentracker's spring perches about 2 weeks ago. there was some background filler and some tech info in the article.

in my opinion, one of the best suspension mods you can do.
The first time I drove it after the swap, it felt like a whole new car.
Its more of what you dont feel than what you feel, especially with heavier springs.
......Just free moving suspension.

The forum member discount is $175 including shipping in the US. Send me a PM here or a email to opentracker@sbcglobal.net . Not sure where you got the price quote but $250 is a lot to spend on roller perches.

What is involved with installing these perches? Do you need any special tools? If you can do it yourself, how long would such a job take?

A spring compressor is the only “special” tool you need.

So you only have to compress the springs, pull them out, replace the roller perches, and then re-install the springs? Is it that simple?

would a MacPherson strut spring compressor be the right tool for the job?

No - check this out. It's a little How-To page at Fordmuscle. The tool can be purchased or rented.

Use the center cross-member to jack up the front of the car and get both wheels off the ground to change the springs. It makes the job a lot easier as otherwise (when jacking one side at a time) you are fighting the sway bar.

$30.00 for the spring compressor through NPD

It is a little on the long side for Mustang springs. I had to add a short length of pipe between the washers to keep the threaded shaft from bottoming on the spring perch, and that worked out perfectly as the head stayed above the shock tower.

One other tip: handle the compressed spring with care. If you can, use only one hand to grab around the outside of the spring (preferably not your "favored" hand), and lay it aside, on it's side.

I like to jack one side. Compresses the spring more, and it's less work for me. Then I let the jack down, and let the crossmember rest on a jackstand. Suspension drops and spring it easier to take out, for me. But I don't have a sway bar.

i have 750 springs on my car and don't even have to look at a spring compressor to get them out, they basically just fall out when you jack the car up and remove the shocks. can't wait 'til i do the shelby drop, springs will be so easy to remove then i'll probably be able to do both sides in 30 minutes or less

When the cars get to that point, we put the shock, spring and perch in as one unit (tip from Billgear). Saves time and neck pain being able to bolting the shock to the spring perch on the bench, rather than on the car.
