Thinking of cutting relief cuts about every inch or so and using hammer and dolley to "round" it upward. Anyone know of pros and cons to such a simple plan?

I just need a little bit of tire clearance on the front fenders.

paint will crack when old. heat gun won't help. i missed the lip a couple of times and made a few dings as well. i used black silicon sealer to keep moisture out. oh, i made no relief cuts.

My car has the chrome inserts

On the fender well lip, I figured by relief cutting maybe 3/8 of an inch or so I could keep them and maybe you wouldn`t notice unless you were actually in the fenderwell with it. Don`t you just have to do the top of the fenderwell, like maybe 8 inches worth or so?

Unless you are a DaVinci with hammer and dolly, it will look like somebody whacked it with a hammer. You need to borrow, rent, or pay someone who has one of these:

I`m not doing it.

My buddy has been a body man for 30 years, he is gonna do it, my fenders are crap anyway, I just want to be able to drive it without ruining my tires.

Don't cut it. If you do you will have a crease at every cut. Looks horrible.

not saying its the best way, but the previous owner of my car put a cuts in before rolling the fenders, visually I see no ill effects from it.

I used a hammer, can't tell from looking at it. I didn't make cuts.

did my car with a hammer and dolly before it was painted and you do only have to roll the tops in most cases however to be on the safe side i like to go about half way around the wheel well. if you are working on a painted fender you can also use a rubber mallet and a block of wood instead of the dolly, you'll probably still get some paint cracking but not as much with the rubber mallet and the wood will keep you from chipping the paint like a dolly would on the outside of the fender

I used the Harbor Frieght fender roller. Pretty much the same as the Eastwood unit but was only 80 dollars. Be sure to use a heat gun to soften the paint on the lip before you start. Trick is to go slow and not to roll too much at one time.

He used hammer and dolly

Took him about 20 minutes total to finish and we didn`t even have to remove the chrome inserts in the fenderwells, they just bent around too. He sure made it look easy guys, I wouldn`t be afraid to try that myself and I`ve never touched a body hammer or dolly before.

He wouldn`t even let me pay him to do it, said it didnt take long enough.

if anybody is worried about cracking the paint, take a razor and cut a line in the paint and it will only chipt to that line
