Roush suspension

I just ordered the Roush suspension kit with a strut tower brace (the one which clears a S/C :D since that's the next Roush goodie I'm looking at) today. 1700 and change for the parts. Looking forward to getting it in the car. I'll post to my impressions when I get in the car in two weeks (first chance I have to get it in).

yes, please let us know. I am torn between the roush and FRPP suspension kits and would like some opinions on them before dropping the green. I like roush's racing rep but the ford kit looks almost identical plus it has the strut tower brace at about the same price if not a litle cheaper.

You're in the same position I was in before I decided to just do it. Yeah the FRPP comes with the strut tower brace and is $100 cheaper, but when I was checking it out on the Shelby GT the 1.5 inch drop on the car just didn't fit what I wanted to do. So I felt much more comfortable with the inch drop, especially since the roads here in Charleston suck. I couldn't tell the Roush suspension was on the 427s I looked at to compare because they don't come with the brace. I wanted to drive the two to get a feel for the difference but of course they said no. I should have told them I was interested in buying them... might have worked that time.

yeah the FRPP quotes the suspension kit as a 1.5" drop, and the roush kit quotes a 1" drop. I suppose looks wise I'd rather have the 1.5", but I am more concerned with quality and performance. I drove a Shelby GT around my town and never bottomed out so I dont think that should be an issue. If the roush kit is the same as the one put on all of their cars then I know it works.

Roush do two spring sets - the blue ones which drop the car by 30mm all round which is 1.2" and the extreme lowering springs (silver on their website) which drop it 1.2 at the front and 1.5 at the rear. On the latter kit, it says not suitable for roushcharged cars and seems to be suggesting it's more for aesthetic purposes using stock shocks - which suggests to me that the car handles better with an even drop.

Got it in and unfortunately it's a little late. I'm going to a car show tomorrow with it and I'll take pictures there. So far, the things I've noticed are:

Re-adjusting my mirrors because the car sits a little bit lower
Wheels fit the wells significantly better
I feel everything in the road but am pleasantly surprised by the change in road noise and in ride comfort. I don't think it's really been compromised that much. I need to get on it though and get the back end loose. That'll tell me something. :nice:

Ok here are a few pictures. I'll get some more though. It's raining here... well about to so I'm not going to go out and get some more for a little while. I'll take a side profile shot so you can compare the drops and see how my 18" rims fill out the wheel well and how it sits.

Buying the Roush

Because I own a Roush sport I am going with the Roush suspension kit. I have eibach springs on it now and it is way too low. I want to RAISE my car because it is dumb and dangerous to drive a low rider around the crummy roads in the midwest.

Plus in my opinion, the eibachs make the car look funny as the wheels (17") are way up into the body, just my preference.

From the Roush forums I understand the Roush kit, also know as the Stage 2, should lower the car 1". My eibachs lower it 1.4" which is too much.

Also you screw up your suspension and geometry when you drop too low. The whole Roush kit is engineered not to mess up the geomentry, that's why I ordered mine today!

I pick up my car _finally_ Friday (i've been waiting for months for it to get in), a Black GT. Because I'm dropping all my reserves on the down payment, my first mod will be the Roush STB, after that, the full suspension kit.

Do let me know how it performs when you really get on it. I'm also very pleased to hear that daily driver use is not compromised by the new suspension, as I live in Pittsburgh and the roads are for sheisse here.

BTW, do you know what the weight difference is between the stock and Roush components? And did you save your stock suspension for return-to-stock or sale on EBAY?

I'm still getting used to it. It's definitely a good buy in my mind. I have no clue as to the weight difference, sorry. And no, I had my dealer take care of my parts. I wasn't going to be able to get anything for them I'm sure on ebay and they said they really couldn't use them either. No need to clutter up my garage anymore than it is now. Oh and everyone who has said something to me has said the STB is definitely beefy in comparison to others they have seen. So it definitely stiffens up the ride, but not so much so it's like I can't sit in here.

From the main forum I usually hang on (fnsweet) from what I understand, no, there is no difference in height between the Roush S2 and S3 suspensions. However the rates on the springs are supposed to be different (Roush keeps the rates top secret) to deal with the increase HP of the S3 and also the additional weight of the supercharger, and gear.

Just an update, I am waiting on my parts, supposed to be here 9/7 but are shipping from Roush so it should be next week. Also waiting on the GT 500 LCA which I ordered about 10 days ago, they should be in soon too.

Once that happens it will be go time for some serious suspension mods. :nice: I've reasearched this stuff for 6 months and am more than happy to share my findings, as far as where I bought it, what to do, etc.

And also I'll sell anything off my car to anyone who is interested, just PM me.:hail2:
