back on topic.....when you guys change your tranny fluid, do you just pump until it reaches the fill hole? Ive heard at least 5 different numbers as fas as the quantity of fluid our tranny needs.

I refilled mine untill it started running out of the hole, then put the fill plug back in. Thats on a T-45 though, dunno if the 3650 is different or not. Im not too worried about having it at the fill hole, cause when I went to change it, the fluid was well below the hole... kinda worried me, but ill just keep a check on it.

Helty,
Let me know what you think about RP for you tranny. I installed a MGW short throw shifter and the same time flushed my tranny and put red line fluid in, but it still seems notchy from 1st to 2nd. I am thinking about trying RP instead. I measured out 3.25 quarts and then filled it up.

A mustang guy I talked to that has built some motors said to stay away from synthetics and to use the blend Ford has. I forget what part he said was breaking, but rebuilt a few motors that had the same problem and he linked it to synthetic oil (not sure how). Anyone else hear this? I'm currently running Mobil 1 synthetic.

I ran Mobil 1 Synthetic for a year or so and spun three rod bearings. The techs at ford gave me some heat for it, but thankfully, the motor was under warranty still.

I think it's just that our engines aren't built for that sort of tolerance or something along those lines.

the only reason they gave you crap for it was b/c the car was still under warranty and motorcraft wasnt being used. good luck trying to prove Mobil 1 was the cause of the spun bearings

We sell all the Royal Purple products and we always tell people that using a thinner (such as the RP) differential oil will likely increase the whine, or make a whine where one may not have previously existed.

I believe this to be true, does anyone disagree or know otherwise?

I've used Royal Purple for a long time. I absolutly love it, however, my mechanic, who races/builds etc etc swears by regular conventional oil. I dunno, in my VR6 in made such a huge difference, there's no way i'd ever use anything else. So I use it in the stang, no difference in sound or performance, not that I can tell, but, certainly my car runs like new, with 109k on it, and beleive me, I dont treat it too good Especially the VR, that thing is hittin' the rev limiter every time I drive it, and, still like new, with 165k on it, nothing beats the VR....except...hey I love mustangs so yeah.

did it today and my first impressions are:

1-2 Notchiness: still there, but subtle. Not as bad as before.
2-3, 3-4: Like Budda

When they replaced my clutch recently, would they have had to drain any of my transmission fluid? I just put Royal Purple in there a few months ago.

now to the tranny. it now shifts like a Tremec 3650 SHOULDNT. its purely efforless and notchless. i feel almost desensitized from it, but thankfully the sound of the shifter hitting the bumpstops with a clank lets me know im there. but dam, its effortless. from 2nd to 3rd shifts, i merely have to feather my arm forward, and its like an act of devine inspiration moves it the rest of the way. i changed the fluid because on the way to the track, my tranny chatter came back(or maybe i just noticed it again), since it was gone after my last fluid change, so figured what the hell. now the chatter is gone, and driving is silencio from el drivetraino.

Depends. SInce the tranny needs to be tilted down, the fluid usually pours out the end where the driveshaft yoke is. So to prevent that most either drain the fluid, or stuff a driveshaft yoke in to stop it from pouring out.

Anyone using mobil 1 or royal purple in the 3650 have any expeirence with it making the shifts better???
