ROYAL PURPLE?? WHO USES IT

Just wondering if this oil is good. Just got 5qts to use this weekend. I heard it comes highly recommended. What you guys think???

I have always wanted to try it, but I never have, and nobody sells it locally so I will probably have to order it from summit or something. It seems like that is the only oil they use on Horsepower TV..but that could just be a sales gimic.

Got it from Pep-Boys. They had plenty. I just want to hear from the Mustang family that it is good stuff. Is it better than Mobil 1???

you will probably get a huge debate between RP and Amsoil. i remember a thread a while back that went on for a while about how amsoil is much better. i have never used either one, so i cant give you a persoanl testimony.

Not sure what you want to hear...it's a synthetic oil...are you going to go faster?..no, is it going to last longer?..no, will you have to change it 3000 miles from now?..you should. Synthetic oils are a nice wear protection item, but I managed 200,000 brutal miles on my last motor on dyno oil...so I'm not really that concearned with type, more with cleanliness of it. I'd be more inclinded to know what the best filter is..it's the filtration of the oil that I think is more important.

I just tried it for the first time. My time previous was a 13.58 @ 102.58, after just the oil i went 13.55 @ 102.91, so maybe a little difference, coulda been track conditions or weather or driver I dunno, but i like it!!

I have tried RP, Amsoil, and Mobile 1. With Mobile 1 I get less valvetrain noise, and very slightly better miles per galon. As far as a seat of the pants feel, there is none for me with all three. I say go with Mobile 1 full synthetic, due to availability. I used RP for a while on my 2000 Yukon Denali running a Whipple supercharger at 8 psi, and I was not easy on it, when I switched to Mobile 1 early on I felt secure. I switched to Mobile 1, put 80000 miles on the Yukon with Mobile 1 and never had any issues. When I switched to Mobile 1 I got way less valvetrain noise and my MPG went up about 1 mpg in the city, 3 on the highway. I always use K&N filters. This of course is just my opinion.

They are all basically the same. Trial and error is the best way to decide which one to use.

I run RP in the wife's Mach 1. RP 5w-20, RP transfluid, I believe it is synchromax and RP diff oil. Haven't notice any huge performance gains but the gas milage definitely got better. Went up by about 2 mph. With the price of gas these days I figure it was worth it.

Wrong again synthetic can go up to 7-10 thousand mile easy between oil changes. Thats why you pay more per bottle ($5) but through out the year you save in the long run.
That's why Motorcraft has been switch from dino to synthetic blend for some time now. There is no such thing as dino MC 10w30 I searched for it it's gone. I currently run motorcraft 10w30 synthetic blend using MC FL1A. I'm due for an oil change soon........5,000 miles later. Synthictic blends go up to 5g's and pure syn can go up to 7-10g's before needing to be changed. Well worth the $$ to go longer between changes and better protection imo.

Shake your head all you want..driving style determins change intervals as far as I'm concearned..not the oils 'ability' to survive for XX miles. In my case all three of my vehicles see majority short trips 10-15 km's, which IMO is the main contributing factor for oil contamination. For me it's habit...all three of my vehicles receive oil change every three months..yeah even my company car. My88 will receive an oil change after the yrs first start...that oil has 10 miles on it...10...but it sat for 5 months and it will be changed out. As I stated earlier..the oil filter is IMO the MAIN factor in protecting the engine...best filter available and clean oil. Should you feel the need to drive 7xxx miles without changing the oil and filter...good for you, hell great for you...but I'm comfortable with spending the $$, it's a minimal expense in comparison to my build total.

Yes driving styles alter the time table, but the oils abilty to go further then dino is still fact. Anyone happy with using whatever brand oil they want and changing it every 3/3 is just fine nothing wrong with that.

I don't think a any one method is incorrect, it all comes down to your decisions and preferences. My 200,000 mile beat to hell motor likely didin't see the recomended intervals, or the best quality oil in it's day (prior to my ownership), but it performed flawlessly right up to the day she came out. I don't give my oil much thought..I just don't see any true advantage for one syn over another syn for me it's peace of mind in keeping it clean on the dip stick...it makes me feel very fuzzy inside

The best way to know if you have a winning combo (oil/filter/air filter) is by sending an oil sample to a lab to be tested for normal wear and what they say the oil can go further or less in miles. www.blackstone-labs.com offers this service and tell you what going on. Heres a good example of what they do *note it's a 4x4 f-150 running motorcrat oil 5w20 motorcraft filter mostl highway miles.

heard of this on several occasion...just a little more effort than I'm willing to put forth, but I'd love to see the results. I will admit to being a huge K&N filter lover though..even though the motorcraft is AS good if not a tad better, I just find that particular filter is one I feel good about having on the car (my88) the wifes 04GT sees motocraft factory equip to ensure meeting warranty criteria shoud any issue arise.

Depends alot on the condition of the motor,an older motor you should change the oil more often and also use a good rated filter.A new motor (after its broken in) put in a good clean syn. oil and have a high flowing filter.K&N have the highest flow of regular type filters and thats why there better IMO.The best filters for a clean engine though, is a metal mesh filter (usualy stainless steel),they will flow more than any canister type filter and are reusable.

Oh,and many will run very thin oil,not me.

20W-50

If its colder drop down to 10W-40,10W-30,etc. but here I wouldnt run any thinner.

I change my oil just cause I'm borred even if it only has 500 Km's on it why not it's cheap and when the time comes to sell all my friends know how well I take care of it. My truck I change every 3000 Km's that's 2000 before I'm supposed to but that's just the way I am. I put 5000 K'ms on my stang sisce I got it and I changed the oil 4 times. I always fill the filter befor spinning that on aswell.

Maby I am crazy but I like to have clean oil it's cheap so why not.
