ok guys, i just bought an 01 cobra with 26,000. its a nice car. there is only one problem. lets see if i can explain this without confusing anybody. lets say i am coming up to a red light in 3rd gear, i down shift to 2nd, let rpms go down to about 1800, then push in clutch. then my rpms go way down, like to about 500. it has died like that twice. everything else runs fine.. does anybody have any idea what it could be?? it only does it after down shifting. thanks...

I had a similar problem in my 00 GT. You might need to clean the IAC. Or have you added a CAI or anything?
Also, could me something with the computer making you run lean.
Hopefully someone else will chim in

where does it idle when you start it? mines around 1100, then drops to 950 or so after 30 seconds.

my 96 does the same thing. ive noticed when i downshift farther from the stop it doesn't do it. i usually let the rpm's go down to about 1500 or so before i push the clutch. it's died on me a couple times...i definitely look cool when that happens...

anyway, like i said, i'll usually downshift a little farther away from the stop and coast a little more. that's seemed to alleviate the problem.

I don't downshift very often, usually only if I'm playing around, I just throw it in neutral and coast up to the light.
I might try to simulate this though to see if it happens to mine.

well, i see my break pads like big pencil erasers. the more you use them and the harder you use them, the faster they wear out.

Hmmm, good point, I guess to each their own, like I said, I coast, down shifting only occasionally, not much heavy braking.
I'd just do that, should fix the problem, unless your a big believer in downshifting.

it's not really that big of a deal, i'm just anal since the gov't doesn't really pay much. as long as you're not braking at high speeds really hard, it shouldn't do much more (if any) than an automatic.
