Do I use it on the thermostat gasket??? My gasket is self adhesive but it looks like the one on there before it had it. What all do I use RTV on?? Ive never used it before. Thanks!!

oh, and by the way, flushing the cooling system and replacing all the hoses has been a big PITA, I guess those hoses have been on there from the factory b/c they are basically super-glued on there. My dremal and razor blade have been very helpful I got all the old crap off there 2day and just gotta put it all back together tomorrow

You can use a thin layer or you can put it on dry, doesn't matter. I've done it both ways and never an issue

Some housings were put on with just the RTV. There are also housings you can get that use an o-ring arrangement. My personal preference is to use the FELPRO gasket and put a light coat of RTV on it to seal the imperfections after I have block sanded everything smooth.

I know what you mean, I am doing the same thing myself at the moment.

A thin skin like the others said will be fine. If you can find one, a tool that looks like a scratch awl but the end is curved at a 90 deg angle will help get the hoses loose. Insert the tool between the hose and a water outlet and go around the outlet as far as you can. This helps break the hose loose.

Also twisting the hose can help break it free. But like on the bypass hose, unless you have midget hands, that is hard to do.

Good luck.

I always just razor mine its cheaper to replace the hose than leave flesh on the motor obsticles. I just replaced t-stat & i used rtv on side to hold t-stat in place in housing let it cure for few minutes then installed on engine I have had many t- stats get moved between gasket & housing in process of installing on intake, & leak after refilling system with fluid really a pain then..
