I was told by the previous owner that it is a world class t-5 all my mods are in my sig plus a 150 shot of nitrous. Now my question is 1-3 gear makes a whinning noise, 3rd gear being the loudest and first and second you have to listen to try to hear it. 4-5 I can hear any whinning at all. Now the trans shifts fine, doesnt pop out of gear or grind so is this something to worry about or take it easy on until I get the fund to get a new trans? With the mods in sig it should be somewhere in the 290-300 rwhp and with the 150 shot somewhere around 420+ rwhp, and from what I read the worldclass trans are supposed to be good to 550 hp and 450tq? Guessing thats at the flywheel? Thanks for the replys in advance.

The 91-93's were rated to 300-315 ft/lbs. or something like that. The earlier world class t-5's were rated to 275 ft/lbs.

Just a little clarification...

ALL Mustang T-5's are world class. It's just the style of 3-peice synchros and different bearings.

Up til 89 they were rated at 265 ft-lbs of torque

90-later were 300 ft-lbs

Cobras got 310 ft-lbs

and the Z-spec t-5's are 330 ft-lbs.

They are all world class T-5's.

If your trans is whining...change the fluid. It may cure it, or it may do nothing. Check your shifter as well and make sure it's tight as whines sometimes come from vibrations in the base and handle.

As long as it's not grinding or whining louder then the exhaust in all gears drive it till ya break it.

mine whines slightly as well, sounds almost like a mini supercharger in 1st and 2nd. It never really bothered me as it shifts perfectly.

Depending on who build the trans. I could just be bearing noise, from where they shimmed it up.

First thing to check as everyone has mentioned is the trans. fluid. Could be a good possiblity that it's leaking and that's causing the whine. Mine whines well. WC T5's can only take so much and if you're looking to add even more HP/TQ I would look into saving up to rebuild it G-Force or buy a better trans to take the abuse it's going to encounter just my two cents.

Here's a helpful read up as well for trans. problems. http://www.hanlonmotorsports.com/HanlonTIC.html

Also the shifter is very stiff with little to no play, it has a b&m shifter.

It must be asked: what fluid did you use?

Do you think the whine could be coming from the shifter? A lot of trans whine tends to come from harmonics in the shifter. They have gaskets you install between the shifter and trans to try to quiet it down.
