Run in with a DSM...

Tonight I was leaving a friends house and jumped on the freeway for a little cruise and a 2nd gen. awd Talon also got on behind me. We were just cruising for about a mile, then we both got into it. We each took off, then slowed again and got next to each other while doing around 60. I went into third gear and we ran off of a three count. I counted to three and we left. I started to pull on him off the jump, changed very quickly though, he just started pulling on me threw the top of third gear. I nailed the shift into 4th and still couldn't catch up with him threw 4th gear. His turbo was screaming the entire time we were running. It was done after that. He pulled on me more than two car lengths pretty easily. After that we slowed again, and pulled off to talk to each other about our cars. He told me some of the mods he had, an upgraded turbo, down pipe, boost control, BOV, bigger fuel pump. You get the picture of the kinds of mods he had done to his car. I told him my mods, and we talked about how surprised he was that he had walked on my Cobra. He had a really nice ride, and it was quick as hell. Hope i'll see him later on down the road. Also the mods I have done to my 96 Cobra are 4.10s, nitto DR's, welded in Magnaflows, and a Pro 5.0 shifter, I also have BBK longtubes and the matching off road x-pipe waiting to be installed.

That was a good story. Gotta watch out for those DSMs. Some can be pretty nasty. Thats cool though how the guy was an enthusiast and wanted to talk instead of being all cocky. Gotta love the real car enthusiast guys.

Don't feel to bad. Sounds like his car was extensively modified compared to yours. The only perofrmance mod that you've got is the 4.10's, the mufflers and shifter really don't give you anything and since you were going from a roll the DR's are meaningless.

Put on your LT's with the off road X-pipe and add pullies, T/A, perhaps a complete cold air kit such as the WMS velocity tube that includes a matching Maf. Shift fast and at 6800rpm and if you get a chance to run him again the result will more than likely be in your favor.
