My car keeps running hot and I cant figure out why. It has a new radiator, water pump, head gaskets, im not running a thermostat, and the fans are coming on.It started running hot today on my way home and I stopped and I ran some water through it and it ran fine at 180* for the rest of the way home. What could it be?

you need to put the thermostat back in. the water isn't spending enough time in the radiator to cool down any. also todays engines run better with a little heat in the motor

Are you losing coolant? I assume you meant that you ran water into the cooling system and topped it up. Correct?

Yes ... I gotta agree with those who say the coolant is rushing past
the rad too fast

Back in the day ........

Lots of guys I knew didn't run a thermo

The old roundy roundy guys at the local dirt track did just that

but

They had a freeze plug in the big hose with a dime sized hole
drilled in the center to slow down the flow
