 i just did a complete tune up; fuel pump, filter, plugs, cap, rotar, all the b.s. it will run for about 15 to 20 min and will run great. then it will just cut off and wont start for about 10 min. i dont get it. could it be the ignition control modual AGAIN? i think i put this in the wrong place . i have an 89 5 liter v8

You have been moved to the right sub-forum by a heads-up mod.

When it wont start, does it have spark? That is the first place to start, along with retrieving trouble codes.

Good luck.

i havnt tried the spark but if it has spark to start and run good for 20 to 25 min would the spark just stop. and then come back after cooling for 15 min?
That is why you test it when it wont start. Yes you can have it lose spark and/or injector pulsing, lose fuel pressure, etc etc once it warms up.

Jaswir, the TFI's often crap out when they get hot. if you allow them to cool down, they come back to life. The same can happen to PIPs (or many electrical items).

when you say codes i dont think any will come up cuz there is no "check engine" light. and i dont have a code checker. but the spark thing i can definatly check tomarrow. thanks for the ideas any other ideas that i can check tomarrow are appreciated. thanks again

good call hissin, i had these similar symptoms before and i thaught i change the TFI ( ignition control modual, same thing right?)to fix it. i know i have changed it in the past. what is the running life if this part? is it common to change them. or should i try the pip first. thats inside the dist. right?

This is where your diagnostics come into play.

First off, even though the CEL is not on does NOT mean there are not codes stored. It is worth pulling them. Computer controlled cars are complex, but the self diagnostics help us to fix them.

The TFI's lifespan varies depending upon brand used, etc etc. If you are missing ONLY spark (when the car wont start), the TFI, coil and primary ignition are where to look. A parts store can bench test your TFI. I would ask them to do it repeatedly (this will heat it up to simulate the heated-condition your car sees when it cuts out).

Now if you are missing spark AND injector pulsing (check the latter with a noid light - parts stores sell them for 5 bucks), the PIP is where to look. It is inside the dizzy's bowl.

A little diagnostics can save you some money in throwing parts at it.

Good luck.

Oh yeah, I did not think that Fazm's times were all that bad for a V6. :) Probably faster than some 5.0's in here.

I am not sure if you really care, but a PM with an apology (perhaps you were frustrated at the time) might be in order. Keep the folks in here happy and they will help you as much as they can. :nice:
