Hey Guys And Gals, I Was Wondering If You Guys Ever Dealt With Rust On The Hatch, Like The Trim Area? Because I Have It In Various Spots And I Was Wondering If I Should Just Replace The Hatch Or Try To Fix, Any Advice Or Suggestions Are Helpful. thanks!

If you can find a good hatch for cheap, it'd probably be easier just to replace it.

its very hard to fix rust, especially on the hatch for some reason. you can sand and paint but it will only be time before it comes back. if you plan on keeping the car find a nice replacement

Thanks You Guys. What About On The Roof? It's Small And Thin Kinda Like A Scar. Also Has Some In The Cowl Area. From The Looks Of It, It Looks Like Surface Rust.

The way you type with the first letter of every word capitalized is trippy...

Replace the hatch, the roof and cowl can be repaired. Worse case scenario is replace the cowl but its a cut and weld job so it can be a PITA and best left to professionals...but it can be done.

Sorry It Became Sort Of A Habit Typing Like This.

I've Been Lookin for A Hatch For A While Now, And They Are Either Messed Up, Rusted, Or Not Decent. I Was Afraid That It Would Come To That. Even If It Its Just Surface Rust?

grind it down and see how deep it is, eventually it will come back if its bad enough. if you really want to fix it you have to do it soon.


I would recomend coating the whole car in bearing grease to avoid any further rust situations

Best bet is to replace the hatch- good ones in California shouldn't be too hard to find, no? Rust can definitely be repaired though, and well, but leave it to the pro's, imo. Here in the midwest, nothing doesn't have rust somewhere, at 20+ years old, unless it was bubble wrapped and kept in the living room its whole life. I looked into a fiberglass hatch a couple years ago, but a igotaguy that found me a good one, so I didn't have to go that route. After you get a paintjob, you'll always want to watch for that first bubble, signaling the next one is coming up.

That's What I Thought Living In Sunny California, But Every Junk Yard I Got To I Can't Find A Decent One. Man It Must Be Hard To Maintain Your Car In The Midwest. I Looked For Them In The Mustang Mag Ads But It's Just The Hatch With No Glass and I Want It With Glass Already On It. Also How Do You Cover The Car With Bearing Grease? Sorry Im New At This.

hahaha don't cover your car in bearing grease. my hatch was rusted pretty bad so i just replaced it. if it's just surface rust you can sand or grind it off, then lay a nice etching primer over it and you should be good

Nice!That was comedy, you can't really cover your car with bearing grease, well, just don't! Rust is the enemy, you'll spend a lot of time battling it in the hobby of cars. It can be repaired, just takes time, effort, and some GOOD ideas, not at all to be confused with covering any part of your car with bearing grease!

Hahahah Man Now I Feel Dumb...Hhaha But We All Need to Laugh At Ourselves Or Be Laughed At. I Know Rust Is Bad I Took Of A Little In Another area and it Came Back. Have Any Of You Guys Heard Of Navel Gel Or Something? Supposely its A Rust Remover any of You Guys/Gals Used It Before?

hahaha, that was awesome. Makes me think of sticky bombs from saving private ryan though, and now I'm in a wwII movie mood! Don't use navel jelly, it's messy and a pain, just sand off your paint to see how bad it is, you can always grind down the rust, spray some anti-rust primer, bondo some if needed and you should be good for a while, but like everyone says...the rust will come back at some point most likely
