Rustoleum durability?

Rustoleum may hold up OK for rattle can paint, but the problem I find with using it is that the paint doesn't dry completely for several days. If it is not completely dry, the paint will easily mark and hold finger prints.

For such a restoration, it would be a shame to not clean all the parts and spray them properly.

I painted a 1965 coupe with Rustoleum Paint .... with a paint brush....

It was flat rust color paint... ugly but durable..

A great car... was mechanically sound straight 6... decent gas milage and great beater car.


I lived in a high crime area at the time, and with that paintjob noooobody messed with it.

Sure, the brush on stuff is durable in the long run. I use it on the undercarriage of my driver cars plus on my home made car trailer. Currently freshening the engine compartment of my 68' GMC and doing the frame and suspension in gloss black. The rest of the engine compartment will be Krylon 1613 which is a semi-flat black which is a near duplicate to the Mustang engine compartment black.

if you're talking about using like rustoleum primer temporarily, that would probably be fine as ling as it is allowed to cure indoors before it sits out in the weather.

if you want a rattle can paint to do the entire car, well, i wouldn't do it. if you think you need to, though, use the duplicolor touch up paints in the bigger cans and use their clear over it. we did the roof of a 944 porsche that my buddy got for his son's first car and he didn't want to spend a ton of money having the roof repainted for a 16 year old. the paint worked great and has been on the car for over 2 years without any problems. we allowed it to cure after the clear was applied for about a week then we sanded and buffed it out. like i said it still looks great after over 2 years, however the car only lasted for another 2 weeks after we painted the roof and his boy wrecked the car. it's been sitting in their backyard ever since then.
