About two months ago, my thermostat seized and the overflow container puked rusty coolant all over my engine compartment. I've done a light washing of the area, but I'm reluctant to take a soapy sponge or brush to it for fear of provoking electrical problems. However, I just remembered that in the 1980s I regularly used the "engine cleaner" setting at the spray and wash with no problem other than occasionally having to wipe the inside of the distributor cap. I guess that went away with more electronics under the hood.
I'd love to hear people's thoughts on cleaning under the hood in a relatively stock classic.
