I spoke to the seller and Saleen will only let you buy the Heritage Edition if you already own a Ford GT. Unbelievable for the right to buy a $90K Mustang.

If one already owned a GT, what would be the point of owning a Saleen, let alone one costing $90,000?!?

Personally, I'd much rather own a GT than a S7 for 3/4 the price.

Oh, and another thing.

The eBay seller/dealer's description is historically inaccurate. It states that the orange over blue paint scheme was to commemorate the beginning of Ford's dominance @ LeMans.

This is untrue. Ford's dominance began in 1966 with the famous (or infamous, depending upon your historical perspective) 1-2-3 finish credited to Bruce McLaren & Chris Amon driving a Mark II. Proceeded by the following year when the Mark IV driven by Dan Gurney & AJ Foyt took the victory.

After that year, direct factory involvement ceased & the GT program was turned over to John Wyer Racing in England who was sponsored by Gulf Oil. Those cars came to be known as Mirages & were powered by small block V8's instead of the NASCAR oriented 427's due to FIA rules changes limiting engine displacement.
These modified GT's indeed took victories in 1968 & 1969 driven by David Hobbs, Brian Redman, Jacky Ickyx & Jackie Oliver.

The FIA changed the rules yet again to further limit displacement & essentially legislate the GT's out of existence. Of course by that time the GT was already a 5 year old race car that would simply fail to remain competitive against newer designs.

Ferrari then assumed its dominance of European endurance racing followed by the turbocharged Porsche 917 blitzkrieg.

Mike,
Thank you for the history lesson!! I love hearing stories of early Ford racing. But don't get worked up about things you hear on the internet espically Ebay. He already made a fool of himself. If you have to already own a Ford GT to order this "special paint shceme" how did the dealership order one to sell to the public?? Or is this a special paint job done by a 3rd party to boost the already ridiculous price tag for an E car?? I'm not saying that Saleen wouldn't do this straight from the factory as they are now doing anything to sell a car, but I would like to see this "option" on the window sticker before I would even remotely believe this......

I don't trust that ebay seller at all. He's also selling PJ cars for markup when we all know you can order them directly from Saleen...

Not to mention he has 4 feedbacks posted with the only one recent enough to have a link being some candy jar candle.

Oh, I'm not "worked up" about it. I just took another opportunity to once again show off my encyclopedic knowledge of FoMoCo history.

Say, did you receive my last 2 messages?

I'll have to correct myself on my previous post regarding the drivers of the 1968 LeMans winning John Wyer/Gulf Ford GT. I tried to do it from memory & discovered I was mistaken.

The winning GT was driven by Lucien Bianchi & Pedro Rodriguez.

In 1969 the 3rd place GT was driven by David Hobbs & Mike Hailwood.

Oh, and the Porsche 917 dominance began immediately in 1970 once the GT's were retired. But their nemesis was Ferrari & their 512P. The Steve McQueen classic, 'LeMans', portrays this epic battle between the two manufacturers that occurred following Ford's withdrawal from endurance racing.

Just goes to show... don't always trust my memory when spouting historical facts.
