On my mustang the guy that had it before me painted over the silver ponys with some black paint. Now he did a piss poor job. So i am going to remove the paint and repaint them. Now here are my questions.

1. on the first wheel i started doing, i was using a high speed drill, and a metal pad to brush all of the paint of the wheel. Then one of my friends told me that i could just buy something from the store that would take all of the paint off. Since I already have everything brushed off of one wheel, should i just continue to do that to the other wheels, or should i go by autozone and purchase the some paint remover.

2. If i take the paint of with the high speed drill, do i have to primer the surface first, then sand it down before i paint it, or can i just apply a couple of coats of paint to the bare wheels.

3. If i use the paint remover from the store do i have to primer the wheels down?

Thanks for the help.

I would try the remover on the rest, as it is easier, and then prime them all, and you shouldn't notice a differance. Have you thought about bead blasting them then having them polished?

Check out this post, look at response #3. He sent me some pics, his wheels looked like a factory paint job, really nice. I would use the prep and paint that he suggest:

Jasco Premium Paint & Epoxy Remover is some knarly stuff and I think it works better than most others. Wear gloves, though. It burns. Another easier to use version is Jasco Graffitti remover. Its similar, but in a spray can. I used that and Rustoleum clear enamel on my wheels, but I probably should have used clear engine paint. Something that might look ok is Plastikote aluminum colored engine paint. It seems to cover pretty well without looking blotchy.
