S281 E hood and 351 bumper questions

my car is at the body shop and is almost finished, i have a few qestions
first off are there any screen's that go in the E-hood?
second
on the 351 bumper the guy painted all the parts next to the exaust the parts that are usually like plastic, im not sure how they go on the 351 bumper
so i told him it looked like **** and that i wanted it fixed, his resolution was to paint those parts flat black, any sugestions?
he also said the reason for him painting it was that the plastic looked like **** so he thought the best thing to do was to paint it??? any sugestions

There are no screens on the hood for the E. Sorry, can't answer the other question.

Mike answered the first question. No screens on the "E" hood.

Second. Saleen only paints the outside two diffuser fins on either side of the bumper like the white car on the left. Or, you could have it painted like the silver car on the right. That is the way Joe at Chicane paints his rear S351 bumpers. Notice that inside diffusers are painted also.

from the looks of this picture it doesnt appear the center exhaust bolts right up to the borla c/b...the tailpipes go up to the axle where they connect these just go back a little?

does the chicane rear bumper come painted? everyone keeps saying 'joe paints it like this' thatd be great for that price. my rear bumper has a deep sag in the middle under the l.plate and it hangs down underneath by the left tailpipe. also my tailpipes dont line up correctly. im thinking about it more and more when i look at my car from the rear.

Joe does not ship painted bumpers. I was just giving an example of how he has his paint shop paint the different areas of the bumper for his customers. Joe worked at Saleen then and developed the S351 Center exhaust. His sounds like none other. Also, Joe's version of the center exhaust has a deeper, larger sound than the Saleen center exhaust that came on the late model S/C cars. If you have a dark color car, it's not worth painting the center diffusers since you cant see much of them but with white, silver, red, yellow and so on cars I think it looks fantastic.

Joe's center exhaust will bolt directly to the Borla and Magnaflow.

If you have a "sag" rear bumper with the dip in front of the license plate Saleen may still warranty it. They did before. It's woth a shot.

P.S. You actually lose a few h.p. from the center exhaust but it looks sick. If I still had my 02 Saleen, I'd have it for sure. Stands out like nuts.

Scott, your car would look great with that E rear. Does Chicane make an exaust to hook up to a cobra? With the IRS the exaust is already in the center, no need in having the extra 10' of pipe.

Scott, still swing by this sunday?

ill give it a shot to get it fixed under warranty but im not going to keep my fingers crossed. the center exhaust pictured above the wrong thing then? the borla muffler section the pipes come over the axle and down a bit then stop. those pipes pictured above would fall a few feet short of reaching, theyd have to bend up.

mike, yea im still planning on it i just PM'ed u back. also, chicanes site shows center exhaust on a cobra so im sure theres something u can do.

OK,

Ask your paint guy if he can properly strip your entire bumper. That is the only proper way to start over with urethane. If not, then find someone who can. There is no great way to fix what you have. You need to start over. The guy will probably blame you for not showing him what you want painted.

Now you know two ways to paint it. The rest is up to you.

Good luck.

bumper

i talked to him about it, and his respone was the urthane came through so bad that he thought it all had to be painted, he says the best thing he can do is to mask off the area inbetween the difusers and paint it flat black, i aksed him about just stripuing it and redoing it and his respone was that the urthane is crap and that it had pin holes and was in bad shape.? who knows
hopefully the flat balck will look good, i will vouch for him as to the shape
it looked like ****, the way the bumper came thorugh looked nothing like the
plastic part that was on my orignal non center bumper?
im not sure wat to do, i know he wont repaint it

That's a shame if he wont repaint it. Sounds like an excuse to me. If he is good at what he does he could get away with painting the appropriate sections flat black like they are supposed to but it does not sound like he can find his ass with two hands or he would have painted it correctly the first time.
Do this for me. Grab a portion ( edge of the bumper ) and bend it. If the paint spiderwebs then the guy did not even use flex primer or any flex agent in the paint. That is the only way to apply paint to urethane or it will crack/spiderweb immediately.
A properly painted urethane part should be able to flex quite a bit before the paint gives. You can grab any urethane part on any one of my cars and it will bend but not spiderweb.

ok

im going there on monday and ill try your test, the paint looks good, i brought a friend of mine that works at a body shop with me to look at it, he said it looks go no orange peal, my orignal paint spider webed relly bad on the lower panals or the car and the wing, i think the reason he dosent want to paint it over again is
because its inchuranse work, i talked to the owner of the shop and my ins company they both said if it dosent look 100% like i want it too there gonna have to re do it, im gonnna wait till he all done with the job i dont wann pick him apart in the middle of a job, so i wait till the end when its done and if it spiders or dosent look good im gonna have them strip and repaint it. thanks for all your help marcus i relly appricate it. ill keep you informed and when its done ill get some pics up on here

Good luck with it.

The flexible primer is expensive. That's why a lot of guys don"t use it.
