How worn do people typically let them get before replacing them? I got a set for free that is worn to the point that you only see the side treads. I've been told by many people that this is where they are their stickiest. But while mounting them today, noticed that you can see a tiny bit of the nylon chord on one of them, a patch maybe a quarter inch long by about 2-3 inches long. Is it a bad idea to use these tires?
My thinking is that it is probably ok for a little while, because it wouldn't really be dangerous untill steel belts show. I figured I'd run them, but inspect them after each run and if the chord shows more, take them off. I figure maybe I can get one trip to the track with them, before needing new ones. But if I am wrong, and should not attempt this, please tell me...
