Wow, so I just read the little article on the home page of stangnet!! He's going to help out GM now. They are talking about the Extreme Camaro having well over 600hp!! Are we in trouble now???

This is not good news for our mustangs!!!! 6.2 liter v8 compared to our small little 4.6 and slightly bigger 5.4!! Were in a world of trouble if all this comes to life!!!

The only way the Mustang will compete is if they bring back the 03-04 Cobra engine or a refined 351 pushrod. The regular weeny 4.6 or 5.4 isn't going to get it done. I don't understand why Ford can't produce a minimum 400 HP NATURALLY ASPIRATED engine? Build a 400hp motor with decent internals and you'll have a great looking timeless car with an engine that will satisfy everyone, and they would sell the heck out of them. Wait until the Dodge Challenger comes out. Might as well leave it in the garage...

You really can't blame saleen.
They have to buy a $28,000 mustang, then put a $5000 supercharger on just to get a Rear Wheel number that is less what a corvette puts out. Then all the body work, rims and suspension.
If you go more with the hp you blow the damn thing up.

Bad base to start with.

Doesn't help that ford makes 5.4 and 4.6 dohc SC engine'd cars, that are stronger and sells them for far less than saleen could put a car together for, considering they have to use a complete car for a starting point.

Solution could be Saleen making a deal to buy cars from ford, less the engine and other parts that they are going to need to replace or remove.

i have to say that i am not thrilled about this & i am w/ DEFWISH on this. Saleen working w/ GM makes things sound like Saleen is hard up for work & will now take on Gm crap. whats next? Saleen imports LOL. gimme a break. anything to make a buck including selling out!!

This should come as no surprise to anyone. There's no question that over the last 2-3 years Ford has started to distance themselves from Saleen and jumped into bed with Roush. Between the Shelby cars and the Roush cars.....how much market share is left for Saleen in the Mustang class? In the end, he will probably do what any smart business executive competing in a saturated category would do....... cut bait, and find somewhere else to fish. It's economics 101.

It's not selling out, it's called surviving.

There used to be no options for tuner type mustangs, now there's like 20 choices.

Kinda like 10 years ago when there was only the explorer and blazer, the explorer was a best seller, not because it was a great suv, but because there was only 2 choices. Now that there's 20 choices, sales are way down.

I'd rather see saleen tinker with the vettes as well if they are gonna take on some chevys, however, I hope they continue to make the mustangs. They could be smart, return to only making a few hundred mustangs a year along with a few hundred camaros and make the cars really rare and hard to come by again. Thus making them retain their value better, and become the few and far between car it once was

The orginal issue I believe started with the Ford GT cars. Appears Ford was a little unhappy with some of the work performed. Enter Shelby America and Ford has gradually distanced themselfs from Saleen. With all the after mark company's jumping into the new S197 Mustang, and you can see why Saleen is struggling. I actually hope Saleen will go to GM. It will only make our cars more demanding to people that have or always wanted a Saleen. We should look at this in a positive fashion. I mean, no disrespect to any of the mod motor Saleen owners, but since '99 model year, Saleen has been making a butt load of cars. I just can't see these being worth much for quite a while, if ever.

Saleen has tried everything under the sun. With attempts at the Focus, Ranger, F150, Explorer and the T-bird, but only the Mustang has survived. The Saleen store that just opened in a strip mall in Cali ain't going to be open long.

If Saleen starts modifying Camaros more power to them. Maybe they can even wipe that stupid grin off the front end of that car and make it less like a cartoon.

However, Saleen can't survive if they don't fix their quality issues. I'm pretty certain whatever profit margin they had in selling me my car is now very close to being gone.

Every single person I know that is active over at mustangforums has several issues each with their car. It is pretty sad.

In my opinion, Saleen has gone away from their scope of business "power in the hands of a few". Saleen did the bodywork on the Ford GT, ie. shop in MI. So for us to say that Ford is steering away from Saleen might not be true, however I agree with you all that the quality control is not up to par with what this kind of customer demands. Also, I think the styling of the new body is bland.. then you see bumper numbers in the thousands. Saleen is obviously trying to grow the biz, but they have strayed from the original business plan. Another thing that gets me, is when you go in any Saleen dealership or on their website you don't get much for apparel. Saleen is without question a name that is recognizable to car enthousiasts, they should use Harley Davidson as an example of excellent Marketing. If you go to a Ford dealership who sells Roush, at least you can buy a t-shirt and accessories to go with your investment. To say our cars won't be worth any money in the future is a HUGE stretch...They are limited production/ documented cars that are famous. If Saleen has to go Chhhh chhhh chhhevy, that would limit the Mustangs even more. Compare values of Roush to Saleen, Saleen will take the cake all day everyday.

Saleen has joined the Dark Side of the Force. Next thing you will hear is Carroll Shelby telling Saleen 'I am your father'... lol

As a current owner of 2 Saleen's, I am not surprised. And part of their problem at the moment, is 'Quality' of fit and finish and when car is over $50k, those issues should not come up!! Plus, the 05-07 Saleen is just plain not a Mustang! They made it look like an S7 and its a Mustang not a supercar! Appearence turned me off right from the start! Now consider the appearence and the poor quality of fit and finish and the fact dealers are trying to sell them at $60k+, no wonder they will start building Camaro's. Future Saleen's need to resemble the Mustang and not the S7 and the price needs to come way down or he will be fully converted by Darth GM! lol

Back in the 80's when no one would touch the Mustang Saleen did. 90's a few more guys came on board and 2000's everyone and the dog is doing it. Making a deal with Foose, Roush, Shelby etc. has shown where Fords loyalty lies. Whether it is deserved or not I will leave for someone else to figure out. Power in the hands of a few went away when Ford decided authorized Mustang tuning was a free for all.

If I was Saleen I would go to GM or Dodge and cut a deal that would give some exclusive rights for a while. They could market through all dealers, not just the ones they could convince to take on their cars. Unfortunately, when investors are involved, they want growth, thus the increased Saleen production. With Ford the growth will not happen for Saleen.

Very true it's just sad though. I it's going to cost us Saleen guys a butt load of money to keep up with 600hp E camaro that they are coming out with..
