Saleen/Cobra Rant.............

Well i've kinda been thinking about selling my 95 and buying an early Saleen or 93 Cobra. I just don't get it,...... it seems that ever 93 Cobra you find is AT LEAST 11,000 !!!!, I don't get it, so I can buy a 96 Cobra with a 32V.... or a 93 with 98k, and a 5.0...... for the same price ? How does that work ? . same thing with the early ( 87-89) Saleens. I whould really love to have one of these cars but I have a hard time paying twice blue book for a decent car. I'm finally to the point were I can afford one of these cars but it's such a monoply for one , it's nuts !Any thoughts from any one who has one of these cars ? Maybe i'll keep the 95 and eventually build a S-351 Clone.

Did you think you would be able to get a 93 cobra for 3 grand or something?? Good luck with that one. I really belive that you shouldn't have gotten rid of your lx you had befor. That thing was sweet!!

I bought my 93 Cobra back in 1999 for $10500 but it only had 19000 miles on it. It now has 49000 miles and I think I could still get more then I payed for it if I sold it.

Not sure what thoughts your looking for Tom, but WaterPog's post answers alot of your "why's"

My only question to you would be what are you wanting it for? Collector, track duty, show car, etc? Either way, you really can't go wrong. If your looking for a fox Saleen, in 87 they made 278, 708 in '88, 731 in '89. The '87 and early '88 model yr Saleens had major issues with the flow fit seats. '89 last yr of the tilt wheel and first yr of production mass air...G/L.

BTW, if you want some help locating a fox Saleen, let me know.

I guess I just really like the Fox body Saleens, and the 93 Cobras. My point was that people want 10K for 93's with over 100k, I don't Expect to pay 3K fester, I just think that TWICE the book value is a little crazy. .....Cory how much can I expcet to pay for a nice Eraly Saleen ? not show qualtiy just a nice, nice weather car, I'm not looking for a all out race car, but eventually I whoud like to do some autocross/road race. I havent looked for a while but they seem to be in the 10k or so range. The problem with the saleen is that i will need to have a loan for some of the car And I can't find a lenedr that will loan money on a Saleen, because it has no blue book value ( )

I really liked my old 91 LX but byt the time i whould have painted the car, fixed the body filler in the quarter and converted to a 5 speed I whould have been in it way too much money.

I love the way my GT drives, it's a really nice car, I just want something a little more unique/rare.

Why dont you just keep your yeller gt and modify it ?
or buy a foxbody and put a 93 cobra body kit on it ?

Nada has good numbers for Saleen. If you need to have your bank give money for a Saleen, have the bank call Liz @ Saleen and she will help with your loan and info needed for the bank. For a decent hardtop, ie, hatchback, 10-12k will get you into something nice. More for a coupe or vert.

Well, I have only seen two other 93 Cobras in this area (Seattle) in the last couple of years -- a black one in Issaquah and a teal one was on the rack at Brad's when I was last over there. Even Brad commented on my car saying it is pretty rare due to the color, cloth, and options combo.

I was in the same boat as you when I decided to upgrade. I had an 87 GT auto and wanted to get back into rowing gears and having some more power on hand. Luckily, a fellow NW stanger was selling his 93 Cobra. The price and miles were right so I went after it pretty quick.

I think there just aren't that many 93 Cobras in this area, but if you are willing to travel, you should try Texas. They are apparently more plentiful there and don't command as much of a high price. But don't expect to find a low mileage, good condition Cobra to go for much less than 10k, especially if it is even close to being stock.

As for having a rare/unique car, it is nice not having something that you see everyone else driving, but be careful about the black hole of mods. You'll probably start developing a split personality -- the side that wants to enjoy the car and make it your own vs. the side that says you should keep it near stock for better value down the road. It's a fact of life that finding an unmolested Fox body of any type is getting harder and harder.

i know most people won't agree with me,
but i would find it hard to pay anything over 7k for a pre-sn mustang(ie fox)

i must be missing something but what is so special bout a 93 cobra? sorry for the ignorance is this the year they came in the "R" model ? as well as the 2000's? i know the diff. in the "R"'s but why this year of just a cobra? why not any other year? and why not the "R" model if it is offered in this year? i did see this guy in 5.0 mag with a "R" model cobra i think this year as well as a 2000 one. the fox body had 1000 miles on it and the 2000 had only 100 or so they both still had all the plastic on the seats and carpet. bascially like the factory shipped them to the dealer!!!! i could be wrong it's been awhile ago since i looked at the article.? i beleive they were both red or whatever that color was? peace homies!

Ford formed a Special Vehicle Team (SVT) in 1991 to create high-performance cars. SVT's first offering was the 1993 Mustang SVT Cobra. Their modifications resulted in 10 more horsepower and better handling. Later in the year they offered a race-ready Cobra R. The R had no rear seat, air conditioner, or sound deadening material to make it lighter. The wheels were black with chrome hubcaps. Only 107 were made.

1995:
After the success of the 1993 SVT Mustang Cobra R, SVT and its engineers started planning for a more powerful Cobra R competition package based on the SN95 platform. Only 250 vehicles were built, with the 1995 edition varying greatly from its predecessor. Requests for a larger engine were granted, with the 1995 offering a 300-hp 5.8L V-8. Another racing modification made was for more fuel capacity, as a 20 gallon Fuel-Safe™ fuel cell was included. Heavy-duty progressive-rate springs improved suspension, thicker stabilizer bars were added, and a front strut tower brace was also included to enhance structural rigidity. To handle the torque of the more powerful engine, a Tremec™ five-speed manual transmission was installed. External changes included the installation of a hood tall enough to clear the engine and induction system. Also, the fog lights were omitted, replaced by ducts to channel cool air to the front brakes. The R model reached 60 mph in 5.4 seconds and topped out at 152mph. Only 250 were made, and all were white. An NHRA licensed was required to purchase a 1995 SVT Cobra R.

2000:
No 2000 Cobras were produced because of the problems with the 1999 models, but SVT unveiled the 2000 SVT Cobra R. Rs were only available in red. They had no heater, air conditioner, rear seat, or sound deadening material. What it did have were a new front valence, side exhaust, racing seats, a 5.4L V-8 pushing 385-hp, and exclusivity--only 300 were made.
