Found a 1999 black Saleen mustang, Vortech supercharger, 33000 miles, and hes asking 20k obo. What do yuo guys think? Did they come from the factory supercharged? What do you think about this price?

From what I read the superchager is an option on Saleens. But they are not vortec s/cs. Saleen uses roots type s/c like Kenne Bells. So I would say that that Saleen didn't come from the factory s/c. Anyone else?

Interesting, I didn't figure they came with a Vortech, just wanted to make sure. It's a damn sharp car, but I dunno how reliable it is if someone threw a supercharger on there. Near 20k for a 1999 with 33,000 miles... dunno... they look sweet though.

no no vortech, dependability of the car really depends on if the blower was done right. if it is tuned correctly and safely. if i were you i would ask him who tuned the car after the blower, and go talk t othe tuner about the car.

i saw in another post elsewhere, that i believe you can call saleen if you have the production or vin # of the car, and they can tell you first off,, if it's a real saleen,, and 2nd,, what came on it from saleen 949-597-4900 doesnt hurt to try

Like Hammer1999GT mentioned, ’99 S281-SCs came with an Eaton M90 blower incorporated into Saleen’s Series I blower systems (rated at 350HP and 410 TQ). Vortech was not an option on the S281s.

Could be tough to tell how hard the car has been run. A possibly safer and less expensive rout to take would be to find a normally aspirated S281, then slap on the blower of your choice.

Now, if this were dreamland, then that car Matto found for $20,000 would be one of the twenty ’99 S351s (assuming it is a coupe). ;)

Or the person just didnt know what they had  .......... we wish :rlaugh:

and some food for thought Matto. A friend of mine got a real good deal on a 99 Saleen S281 and it too had an aftermarket Vortech. He bought the car and shortly after (like one month shortly) the engine threw a bearing. Not saying the car you are looking at will do the same, but who puts a supercharger on a car and doesnt beat on it? THEN tries to sell it for cheap? I am with Head Paneer, i would look into finding a less modified one.

FST FORD's car:

Good luck in finding a good car :nice:

Thanks for the replies guys. Is 20k for that Saleen pretty cheap? I have no idea what these cars run, or no idea about the cars themselves, guess they're so rare you don't hear much bout em. You are right though, who would put a supercharger on a car and not beat on it, but then again who buys a stang and doesn't beat on it, haha. The car looks so nice, I really like the looks of the saleens, especially the back of the cars. I found a 2001 Cobra with 30k for a bit cheaper than that Saleen, so who knows. Heres the link to that Saleen ad (fstfords car looks bad ass)

20k for a blown Saleen from Irvine, CA is cheap. 20k for a n/a Saleen from Irvine is normal. Just saying this to let you know that the blower might have been put on as an afterthought by one of the owners. Just ask the seller if it came from Saleen like that, or not. If not, I would avoid it because you might end up like FST FORD. If it's a true S281e or SC281 or whatever they decided to call 'em that year, i'd pounce on it.

If i had to make the choice between the cobra and the saleen i would probably go with the Saleen. The only real difference would be the 4v engine (320 HP from the factory cobra VS 260 HP from the factory GT) the saleen will have a tad more power then the GT (from the saleen tune, exhaust, and it will probably have 3.55s) but you CAN NOT beat the looks and authenticity (sp) of a Saleen. I always get thumbs up from people driving by, or people tripping over something (like curbs) when i am going slow through center city as they are looking at my car.

Good luck with the car Hunt :nice:

and thanks for the compliment (in the other thread) :nice:

Haha I'd prolly be one of those people tripping over the car. Appreciate the reply man, I may call on it, dunno yet though. I know it's a rare car but 99 with 30k for 20k isn't cheap, if it had less miles I'd be a lot more interested. I really like the Cobra's too. Doing a little search I also found a black Mach 1, 2003 with 6k for 19,500. But doing a little research it seems like some of the Machs develop a "tick" coming from the drivers side head. But I dunno, the Mach is really tempting right now to me, only because its really new and really low mileage. But first and foremost have to sell the GT. Appreciate the replies, any more suggestions feel free to post em. :)

Mach 1s are pretty sweet too, but i have never heard of the Mach 1s getting a tick. The 99-01 cobra and the 03 cobras were plagued with that.

Hmph, haven't heard too much about a tick with the 99-01 Cobra's, but I guess it could happen. As far as the tick with the Mach 1's, yeah I spent an hour or so reading over at mach1registry and it seems to be a small problem that plagues the Mach 1's, as well as the 03 Cobra's. Either way I guess it will be between an 01 Cobra and a Mach 1 now, I like the styling of both cars and they're both faster than the 99 GT I have. Thanks for the help man, and others.
