Saleen Question

Ummm...as far as I know, every Saleen has a number on the bumper, center console, and on the firewall plate under the hood. Yes, the number indicates which number the car was in the order of production line. I.E. In 2001, approx. 900 Saleens were built.

I believe Saleen only put #'s on the bumpers of the S351's and POSSIBLY the S281E's. I do know that they do not put them on the bumpers of the S281 and S281SC models. I've seen a few REAL Saleen S281's and there was no # on the bumper

Ahem....

My car is number 774. The numbers were on the drivers side bumper straight from their factory. Its a "real" S281. :nice:

Maybe the owner took the # off. :shrug:Every saleen I've seen is numbered.

Scheister, can I see a pic of your car (also a pic of the # on the bumper)? Thanks :nice:

It's the last pic on my homepage. Look at my sig for the link.

:OT: BTW...can I compress a file that was taken by a digital camera, or do I need to select low quality so that it won't exceed 80,000 bytes??

I posted that every saleen that I've seen HAD a number on it. I do understand your point though.

Here is the deal, and don't let anyone tell you differently. EVERY Saleen Mustang produced has a number assigned to it, s351,281e,281sc,281, every one of them. The Explorers even have numbers. If the car doesn't have a number on the bumper, check the dash, not on the dash, check for a authenticity plate under the hood. If there are no numbers to be found, it ain't real-straight up. Why? The number is your "club card" so to speak. Anyone who pays the extra price to buy a Saleen Mustang certainly is NOT gonna remove all of the emblems that prove it's authenticity. I suppose it's possible, but highly unlikely. It'd be like pulling off the Cobra emblems off of your ride. You want everyone to KNOW it's a Cobra! As someone mentioned already, if it doesn't have numbers and the owner claims it's real, run the VIN number or call Saleen. Resale value goes down the tubes without the proof. Some people have modified their cars with true Saleen parts from the motor on down to the suspension, body, and decals. They look real, run real, but they're not "real". Not to say that they aren't as good, though. I've seen some pretty sweet clones that only with an educated eye, one could tell the difference. But, if you're gonna buy one, make sure it's real before you pay the higher price for one. Hope this helps. Peace.
