Always loved the look of the saleens. I've been thinking about maybe dumping my race truck for one (maybe is the big word, not sure if i really can after all the work i put into it). I found a 02 S281 that i really like, 8K miles for about 28K. I'm wondering what actual hp it puts out to the ground, what they will run in the 1/4, and how reliable they are. Would an 02 be a good choice? Whats the difference between them and the 03 04 saleens?
Thanks
Allan

That is a high asking price for a 2002, but good low miles. It is probably putting down somewhere in the neighborhood of 290 hp to the rear wheels. I believe the 2002's were rated at 365 fwhp from the factory. Probably run low 13's on street tires. These cars are pretty reliable and came from Saleen with a conservative PowerFlash tune. A custom tune wakes them up a little bit. Personally, I don't think an '02 would be a good choice, unless you found a killer deal on one...$28K isn't a killer deal. Look for an 03-04 car as they came with twin screw blowers as opposed to a roots-type blower on cars from 99-2002. The twin screw Series IV Saleen used is a Whipple 1600AX unit.

Good luck! :nice:
