saw my first shelby gt today

It's only as limited as Ford decides to make it. And it only has the value that someone is willing to pay. I used to have people call me and ask what a 1965 Mustang coupe is worth (I own a 1966 convertible as well as a 2005 coupe.) My answer generally is "it's worth what you can get someone to pay you for it." That's going to be the case with the Shelby GTs. And some Ford dealers apparently think it's woth more than I think it really is.
If Shelby dies, and he will someday, what will happen to prices then. And I am willing to bet Shelby Auto will continue in business. What will be the value of a new Shelby made after Shelby is dead?
Jenn, I don't think I could ever not own a Mustang. It's just not in me no matter how frustrated I get with Ford.
I still love you, though.

I know Stan. It's not that I no longer have a Stang. The fiance and I will be getting the Cobra back mid-summer from the East coast. So, we are covered at all angles.

Being an avid sports car enthusiast and loving automotive engineering/modification, I can appreciate both the Mustang and the Transam and remain analytical and unbiased while enjoying my hobby. I am an equal opportunity modifier. hahahahaha

At least it wasn't a Camaro that you got!!!!! Ever since they came out in '93 I thought they were fugly. The TA was better looking. Back in '99 when it came time for me to buy a new toy, I was looking at the TA, SVT Contour and the Stang GT. I went for the Stang hands down!!!!! The interior is just to cramped in the F bodies.

I love the 4th gen, Jenn (see what I did there...). I had a '98 Camaro LS1 for 4 years as a daily driver. It's true I put Bilstein suspension in and BMR SFC's and control arms but once that was done, the car was just about perfect. It handled perfectly, it went like stink and you could also have the T-tops off when the mood took you.

Despite a Vortech, the Mustang is taking longer to grow on me. I love it but not in the same way I loved my Camaro. The car had real character. The Mustang is just too modern despite it's retro looks. As for the Mustang being bigger inside, I think someone needs to look again. The Camaro is much bigger in the rear. It's attraction or downfall depending on how you look at it, is the low slung seats which make you feel like you're driving a sports car. It's a trick the Mustang can't do because the engine is taller and the hood is too high.

I also miss the torque of the 5.7. Even blown, I often need to change down but then the Camaro was an auto so maybe my mind is playing tricks (and of course I had a Vette Z06 too).

Like I say, I love the 4th gens and let's not forget it took Ford until 2005 to make a better car after GM gave up on the Camaro. The fact I still love the Camaro shows how good it was in 1998. And it still had 5hp more....if not more.

Can't wait to see how good the new one is.

The GT500 is a Ford product through and through, with the Shelby name. Hau Thai Tang even said that they couldn't make a Shelby GT in under 2-3 years. Shelby can make them in 6 months.

The Shelby GT and Shelby GT-H are Mustang GTs shipped from Flat Rock/AAI to Shelby HQ and refitted with parts. I seriously doubt Shelby did any long-term testing on the same level as the OEM, hence the 6 month timeframe from conceptualization to production. However, their parts (FRPP stuff) have been tested relatively well.

I don't care how good that write up might be. It's going to be hard to justify an $8K premium on the GT price for 19 HP, and then the stealerships 2nd sticker on top of that. That's way too much money for a badge or a signature on the dash. In my opinion, the SVT side of Ford got a lot more bang for the "extra bucks" out of the 03-04 Cobra than Shelby is getting out of the current GT500 or GT.

looks are a subjective thing, arguing about looks is just flat out retarded since what is ugly to you might be great looking to the next guy.. Personally I like the looks of the 4th gen z28..

I am absolutely fine with the responses on my TA, gentlemen. I understand that there will always be an element of "to each his own" on anything we do, buy, desire, etc. This is a fundamental aspect of human interaction and survival. If we all had the same preferences, desires, etc. we would have died out as a species long ago.

One thing we all need to try to keep in mind is that although we have the right to discuss and vocalize our opinions, we should do so with respect. Totalitarian doctrine will not sway opinion, it forces it. When I post I try to seek to understand and employ collaboration and/or accommodation to those I interact with.

My desire to own the f-body TA was a personal decision that I am comfortable with. As I drive down the road I conduct myself with the dignity of a hot MILF driving a vehicle that has limited competitors on the road. I KNOW what I am sitting on and have no reason or inclination to obtain a citation to prove it.

If I want to prove myself and my vehicle, I will take the TA to Sacramento Raceway for Wednesday night grudge matches. Running the grudges as well as participating in a couple HPDE events this year will settle my comfort level with the f-body and allow me to develop a much needed symbiotic relationship with the vehicle.

The only person who needs to be comfortable and happy with my purchase of the TA is ME!

Suspension modification is indeed necessary to keep the 340 ftlb TQ on the pavement and the body from rolling over like a fat chick at the prom in a tube top. COPY THAT! Lol….. A wise man once said “Horsepower sells cars – Torque wins races”. WOOT!

I have the Automatic. It has limited drivetrain loss with the smaller 7.5 diff. With some suspension modifications and mild cam, coupled with my quick reaction time this will be a nice little competitor at the "tree".

I didn't say I liked the Shelby just rather it was a good article on it. For 8 grand you can slap a magna charger on your ride and blow the freaking doors off the shelby.
