I saw these massive 285/40/18 tire on a Cobra with a 1" wheel spacer. I want to do the same thing to achieve sort of a monster car type look. Does anyone know if it'll fit on a solid axle GT with a wheel spacer?

You should reconsider using a 40 series tire, especially if you're lowered.

30 or 35 at most.

I have a 285/35/18 on my 18x10 saleens and they are plenty beefy, plus have plenty of room to spare from the fender. The 40 series will look dumb.

The tires came on the wheels when I bought them used, if it was my choice, I would definitely go wider. 295 at least and 315 would be ideal. The spacer is up to you, if you go with a 285 tire you could probably fit a 1" spacer, but you'd need longer studs.

"Beefy" as in wide, or "beefy" as in tall?

Most refer to a "beefy" tire as a wide tire, such as a 295 width or larger.

"beefy" as in wide. I saw a 295/35/18 and it didn't look as "beefy" as a 285/40/18 on a Cobra that was in the same parking lot.

Were you comparing both vehicles from a rear POV perspective, or did you compare a side view too?

Those look like 315's......do you have a 10" wide rim? If so, fitting them won't be a problem but finding one will be. They'll be hella expensive too unless you have a 17" rim (versus an 18" rim).

If I got 315's, what size would they be (i.e. 315/30/18)?

315/30/18 BFG would look good!! BFG tires run wider than most others. my old KD's were an inch wider than my firestones and both are 295/35/18

mmmm beefy...
315's look great on Mustangs. I run 285/35/18 Goodyear F1 GSD3's and they are great for street but 315's just look great.

heres my 285's
