Scan said code 542???

Any suggestions. Should i take it to FORD or should i search for this gremlin on my own?

That codes says fuel pump circuit open, PCM to ground.

what that means is that the computer detected a state in which the fuel pump was either:

1) not passing power through it.
2) The positive wire was disconnected
3) The ground wire was disconnected.

But I have also heard of these codes refered to as "ghost codes", which means there really isn't a problem, but for whatever reason, the code was stored.

What you need to do is get a paper clip and jumper the SIG RTN to the STI, turn the key to start the code flashing sequence, and then pull the paper clip. Pulling the paper clip during code readout clears the codes in the computer. Then go for a test drive and drive it for 10 miles. Re-read the codes, and see if it's there. If it's not there, then forget the 542 code and start from scratch.

Basics, check plugs/wires/cap/rotor, fuel pressure, vacuum, base timing, clean MAF & IAT sensors, & check the ECT sensor. That should keep you busy. But as far as order of ops, you should start with fuel pressure, then clean your MAF/IAT sensors, then the rest.
