I have a 98 Gt stock engine pro 5.o shifter(love it) and am about to get 2.5 mac cat back with the stainles tips and then its gears next and i just think that 4.10 would be too high i am leanin way towards 3.73 plase give me some feed back to help me decide and if gears are even worth it. THANKS

Why is everyone affraid of 4:10's? These gears are perfectly streetable in cars with overdrive. Hell, I used to have them in my 66 chevy that didnt have an overdrive and they worked out alright. Dont fear the gear. 4:10s are great on the highway. I think I am turning 2500rpm at 75 mph. I can actually pass people in 5th gear, and accellerate very well in 4th. I would never go to 3:73's after seeing what 4:10's are like.

From people who have/had 4.10's how does it affect your gas mileage. I keep hearing both sides some say on highway it kills your gas mileage then other say on highway you will lose 1mpg if that somebody please tell me what the real deal with 4.10's and highway gas mileage is?

I have 4.10's.
Sometimes I wish I went to 4.30's.
I would have been pissed if I went with 3.73's.

GET THE 4.10's!
Mustangs should come stock with them.

:stupid:

I suggest 4.10's or 4.30's. If you go anything lower you'll be kicking yourself in the a$$ later. Try to find 3 guys with all 3 different gears in thier cars. You'll see the difference, and I'll bet you don't go any lower than 4.10's

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...Got both, wish I had 4.10s in both. 4.10s are NOT too steep. (And, if it makes any difference, I'm no kid, pushing 39 years old in a few months...)
Mileage differences depend on the placement of your right foot.

I'm talking about highway, say 75 consistent. How much of a difference will you see in the gas mileage?

I just put 3.73's on my 98 5 speed a couple of weeks ago. Love them, have driven 98 with 4.10's didnt like. Did like a 2000 gt i drove with 4.10's. different motors perfer different gear. It feels like the 96-98 motor is straining too much with the 4.10 gear.

Get a civic and you won't have to worry....not to flame but come on!

Not all of us have tons of money to just throw around. Sorry I actually care about what and how much of my money I'm putting into what. Last time I checked this was the proper board and thread to put that question in so WTF are u getting all butt hurt? Why even bother making a comment like that in the first place it servers no purpose and is just negative.

My gas mileage hasn't changed....not noticeably. And I drive the piss out of the car. I, too, was worried about 4.10's. I thought 3.73's would have been safer, but all I can say is if I had gone with 3.73's, I would have been pretty mad.

4.10's are just an overall better gear for modular motors. And if you're still concerned....think about this: Steeper gears means the motor doesn't have to work as hard to get the car rolling. So therefore, in theory, you'll get better gas mileage. Personally, I'm not worried about gas mileage anymore, the car is just more fun to drive. It's worth it.

with 4.10's does your driving style change noticeably? I've heard 1st gear is useless driving around town, which necessarily isnt a bad thing cuz I hate shifting in the city and I usually shift outta first 10-15 mph.

Mr GT 02, you'll need a speed cal or a chip or tuner to adjust the speedo. The difference in 1/4 mile times for equal cars, running 3.73 and 4.10? Probably not as much as you think...a tenth or so. But with some careful pedaling, your biggest gain would be in your 60' times.
Think of it this way...3.73's make the car feel about 500 lbs lighter. 4.10s make it feel about 800 lbs lighter. I drive both cars in my sig...ask me which I like more? The 4.10s!!! Wish I had gotten 4.10s in my 02. :bang: 3.73s aren't really disappointing...until you get used to 4.10s.
