school me on mustang t-5

okay instead of sticking with c4 i end up with '93 mustang t-5......my questions is:

when i insert the yoke in to the tranny it turn smoothly and once i put it into gear it still turn when the tranny is in gear is this normal or there is something wrong.
please let me know before it go in the car('66 coupe).thank you

thank you very much you answered my question,reason for asking is a friend at work said that it shouldn't turn if in gear, he's F.O.S

BTW,Tranny is on bench
