On my wife's 93 LX 2.3. The schraeder valve on the fuel rail is leaking large amounts of gasoline. Something failed internally, it is not cracked or anything, it is leaking right out of the top.

I can't seem to find a fuel rail part for this car listed on any of the major car parts websites.

Anyone had this problem before? WHat did you do? I prefer not going the junkyard route as I'd rather buy new if I have to go through all the work of pulling off the intake and rail...

Feedback is appreciated.

hmm, I've never heard of that before.

Do you have one of those tools to tighten the valve part? Just like bike tires or passanger tires, the valve is rotated clockwise to tighten it in. I would check to insure it is tight and in place first.
Then, I would try replacing that valve. I would probably try a valve from the j-yard/parts store, because I would imagine the rubbers are different from that for a standard tire with air only.
Last option, still easier than replacing the entire fuel rail, and most likely cheaper is putting on a fuel pressure gauge. You didn't know you wanted one, right? I suppose you could replace the whole rail, but it would be cheaper, easier and faster to just do that

If I drove the car, I'd either just throw a pressure gauge on it or cap it with some black RTV inside a metal tire valve stem cap...BUT, I don't like the idea of my wife driving around with it half-rigged being that it could spray gasoline all over the hot engine...

Never heard of a "valve tool" like that, I guess I'll have to do some research.

Thanks for the response.

yeah, just go to the hardware store and look in the automotive/tire section. It should be around there.
I wouldn't consider a fuel pressure gauge ghetto rigged, as it is designed to not leak over time as oppsed to a cap and RVT. hehe

can't you just replace the whole valve? I know my 94 GT and probably 94 Lightning, the schrader valve unscrews from the rail w/ like an 11mm I think, then you can install a new one, but I haven't looked very hard at a 4 cylinder rail.

Yeah, the whole schrader valve is an assembly that unscrews from the rail. You can replace the valve core or the assembly. It is just a 1/16" NPT fitting. Plug it if you don't plan on checking pressure.

You can also replace the faulty valve in there with one from a tire valve stem. Same basic thing and it works like a charm. Did it on one of the Ford Explorer company vehicles at work.
