With gas getting crazy high i was wondering if anyone looks like a douche and rides a scooter... im considering it for my 60 mile trip from my parents house to school that i take every weekend... My g/f lives by my parents so i come home everyweekend... Im thinking about buying a scooter...

Lol, make sure someone gets a pic of you riding a scooter down the highway then post it up for all of us to laugh at! Its a good idea, but 60 freakin miles is a long way on a scooter. If traffic wasnt so stupid in the mornings, I would get one for my daily commute.

ok... lol... honda elite sa, mid 90's-2000's.... you can get a 50... you dont need insurance/cycle license, and then import all these crazy water cooled stroke/bore kits, and can get those things goin over 100mph... upgrade suspension... all sorts of crazy things... lol i used to be into them... no.. not gay..

yeah i would much rather a small bike over a scooter.. believe it or not you will be safer on a bike.

Get a Ninja 250, or something similar. They're still faster than just about every average car you'll come across on the road, and they'll get around 60 MPG, too. The new Ninja 250 actually looks pretty damn good:

A little known fact about Hyosung, since they're a relatively new, unknown brand in the US is that they manufactured bikes and parts under contract for Suzuki for years. They were the manufacturer of the SV650 for some time.

Damn you dont need a licence for a 50cc.... im considering doing this.... the focus is good but 29-31 isnt that great... and with gas prices on the rise... i dont know what to do...

There is a written test, and a riding test just like getting your drivers license. Take it from me, borrow a buddies scooter for the riding test! I took mine on my 460 lb hog of a ZX7R and failed miserably! You have to do really low speed U turns without putting your foot down, and you want something light and nimble to do it on. Its much easier. Since when did Ninja 250's get that good looking?!

I was on the same kick last year. I actually had cash in hand to buy a 50cc Eaton Beamer scooter for under $900 with under 500 miles on it. On the flat I topped out at ~38-40mph... then I came to a hill. I felt like Fred Flintstone as I was using my one foot to help push it along up the hill... I had to put the flashers on. For around town/city driving that has a lot of flat areas, the 50cc would do well. Unfortunately for me, around here is way too hilly to ride such a small scooter. I thought about it a lot and came to the conclusion that a small bike was a better option as has been mentioned here.

There's nothing wrong w/ getting a 60MPG scooter for around town usage. I have a Honda Nighthawk 750 right now, and I'm getting ready to sell it which would leave me with ONLY the stang for getting around. The bike gets ~40MPG right now, but I'd gladly sell it & get something w/ a smaller motor for better gas mileage.

Even if your mileage doubles, and gas goes to $6/gallon it will take forever to payback the cost of the bike, insurance, maintence, and registration, etc if it is above the 50cc...

Bikes have to be for enjoyment rather than for cost savings... With my 30k/yr commte and 50% of that on a bike makes it hard to justify another car... just drive the stang and enjoy it I say... Although my musty is my gas saver, my truck gets about 13mpg with the mud tires on it...

I definitely would've had trouble with the figure 8's on my ZX6R. Had enough trouble on a Rebel 250 in the MSF class, and it has a tighter turning radius than a sportbike does. And for the Ninja 250 - they finally redesigned it for 08. MSRP: $3499

My friend just bought a 50cc 4 stroke scooter from pepboys for 600 bucks. It'll do about 45 and gets like 110 miles on a tank that costs 7 bucks to fill. I've seen hopped up 2 strokes that'll do highway speeds...thats what I'd look into if you're set on a scooter.

i think theres a harley dealership in PA that is a weekend course, its free, you just go there, they teach you how to do everything, and then you bring a slip to the dmv and they take your picture and give you your license.

i'm going to be doing that probably this summer. if i have a bike or not that'll be a different question hah.
