I agree. When I saw the movie, I couldn't help thinking that if I was a stolen car dealer, and ordered a 67 Shelby from a thief, and he brought me that hyper-modified, body-filler-covered mess, I'd have shot him.

I've spoken to the guy who made at least some of the body panels for that film. He doesn't use it as an advertising point, because he found what they did with them embarrassing.

To me Eleanor has always been the '73 Mach1 from the original Gone in 60 Seconds.

Then you're a fool if you don't do it. If this part is so easy, the field is wide open, since Drake doesn't have it. Seriously. Everybody complains there isn't enough competition in Mustang parts. You could help solve that.
Yes, I could help solve it, but I’m not quite a fool. If Drake fixes their die in the meantime, I’m screwed. I’d never be able to compete with the distribution network they already have setup. Bottom line, designing state-of-the-art products for the U.S. Military is more rewarding, exciting and lucrative.

I did some checking, and a finished steel die set, ready to use, for that emblem should probably clock in at right around $50,000.

So becasue nobody else makes the parts, they can justify it by making crap that doesnt last and think "hey, were the only one that makes it, who else are they gonna buy from". That in no form is a excuse.

I seriously doubt they are hurting for money and they wont close their doors. Why? Becasue there is always a new customer out there that doesnt know any better and thinks because the pakacing looks "official" it must be good.

Sorry GT, but Platonic's estimate is reasonable, maybe a bit high. 1000 of these would last awhile, so tooling cost would be amortized into the unit cost. At $3 a part ($3000 for 1000 parts), plus packaging and distribution cost, the wholesale price would need to be upward of $7.50. I'd guess that production cost is less than $2.

I do this for a living GT. I got a 6 cavity die cast tooling quote just 2 weeks ago for parts substantially larger (imagine a 2.5" cube) and much more complex for $20,000. That's with everything purchased and machined in the U.S.

My price is probably high because I only deal with U.S. mold makers. I have plenty of horror stories about using overseas molds. It is possible to get quality parts from other countries, but you must have a liaison (that works for you) there to inspect and supervise the process.

For some reason 2+2 GT is defending them like no tomorrow.

I wonder why?

I have Drake parts on my car, and no complaints about any of them. Not saying they have a perfect record, but this thread sounds a lot like schoolkids complaining about the food at the cafeteria, no matter how good it might be. Ford doesn't offer jack for these cars, and if it wasn't for Drake and a few other companies most of our cars would be off the road, except for a few folks who can afford NOS stuff. It's a free country. Anybody thinks they can do better, they should spool up some tooling and go for it. It's not like it'd be hard to get ideas. There's a thread started by Drake on another forum running right now, asking for new product ideas. At least a dozen of them sound really possible to me. The next time somebody asks "why doesn't someone make left-hand framistats for these cars", take out a loan and make them yourself. It's the American Dream.

Maybe I've gotten the wrong impression, but from all the times you (2+2GT) have answered my questions in the past (thank you), I assumed you had some vested interest in Glazier/Nolan Mustang Barn.

I doubt gas caps, window mouldings and badges are gonna keep a mustang on the road.Mechanical parts are readily available or easily replaced with aftermarket, so your statement is a little far fetched.

This thread appears to have run its course, a lot of opinions have been shared and it is now a negative thread...time for it to be closed off maybe?

This thread is a perfectly fine open, civil, democratic discussion between people with different points of view.

"OMG! Better squash that before someone learns something!" (says new 2 post mystery poster)

No one is forcing you to read it.

Lessee, no mouldings, no bumpers, no grilles, no parking lights, no taillights, no backup lights, no door handles, no dash panels, no seat trim…

Yeah, that's it, we'll all drive rat rods.

When I see people willingly, happily, paying $100 for door handles, and $900 for bumpers, and $675 for mufflers, I'll complain about SD "quality".

BTW, that muffler price is real, and it's a beauty, but people aren't exactly blowing out the internet to order them.

People talk on the 'net about "I'd pay triple for decent quality!" I just think about the times I've heard people whine about the price. I've heard people whine about $50 for a gas gap. OK, would you pay $200? A friend of mine did a '75 Mercedes once, the four door handles totaled $900. Would you pay that?

As for the gas caps that are a big part of this thread, were they Scott Drake? I find it hard to believe anyone would have a 6-month-old gas cap go bad and Drake refuse to replace it. Seriously. I've talked to these people, and they're just not like that.

All the parts you mentioned can be bought at a swap meet and refinished and end up with BETTER QUALITY/LOOKING parts.ITS A FACT.My 46 year old factory turn signals might be pitted, but the chrome is still better then the replacements i bought a few years ago.

I can tell you we are not the only ones with these issues.I am a member of mustang club with over 500 members and alot of them will not buy repro parts anymore for this reason.WE are only the ones voicing our opinions and what we have gone through.

Your comparing apples to oranges.Mercedez? German built parts? Ford, supposedly American built parts.Stop trying to go off tangent and face facts.

You have posted the same pics over and over and over. How about pics a few years later?I still dont see why your defending them so much.I dont know what you do but you probably know them on a personal lever and CANT really say anything.

And kinda wierd Scott Drake has commented since?Either they dont care or have no responce
