I agree. When I saw the movie, I couldn't help thinking that if I was a stolen car dealer, and ordered a 67 Shelby from a thief, and he brought me that hyper-modified, body-filler-covered mess, I'd have shot him.
I've spoken to the guy who made at least some of the body panels for that film. He doesn't use it as an advertising point, because he found what they did with them embarrassing.

So becasue nobody else makes the parts, they can justify it by making crap that doesnt last and think "hey, were the only one that makes it, who else are they gonna buy from". That in no form is a excuse.

My price is probably high because I only deal with U.S. mold makers. I have plenty of horror stories about using overseas molds. It is possible to get quality parts from other countries, but you must have a liaison (that works for you) there to inspect and supervise the process.Sorry GT, but Platonic's estimate is reasonable, maybe a bit high. 1000 of these would last awhile, so tooling cost would be amortized into the unit cost. At $3 a part ($3000 for 1000 parts), plus packaging and distribution cost, the wholesale price would need to be upward of $7.50. I'd guess that production cost is less than $2.

All the parts you mentioned can be bought at a swap meet and refinished and end up with BETTER QUALITY/LOOKING parts.ITS A FACT.My 46 year old factory turn signals might be pitted, but the chrome is still better then the replacements i bought a few years ago.Lessee, no mouldings, no bumpers, no grilles, no parking lights, no taillights, no backup lights, no door handles, no dash panels, no seat trim…

A friend of mine did a '75 Mercedes once, the four door handles totaled $900. Would you pay that?
As for the gas caps that are a big part of this thread, were they Scott Drake? I find it hard to believe anyone would have a 6-month-old gas cap go bad and Drake refuse to replace it. Seriously. I've talked to these people, and they're just not like that.
