hey guys,

took the top end of one of my engine today and number 2 cylinder has a nice deep scratch going vertically all the way down the bore. I can catch it with my fingernail but the funny thing is, my compression was great before I pulled it apart. The engine only has 5-6k on it....what do you think I should do? Its my dd so i'm trying to slap it back together asap...

It's hard to tell without seeing how deep it is, but would a hone and re-ring remove the scratch? It's risky to leave it and find out down the road that it was the cause of an issue that could be more expensive to fix.

If it catches your fingernail it's pretty much a thousanth plus scratch, and a hone will come very far from that. A hone may remove a couple tenths of a thousanth.
