Screwed up 5.0 swap? Motor mount question...

Ok, here is the situation. I have seen plenty of people use the Taurus fan with this swap with no clearance issues. I have rarely heard of anyone's AOD shift lever hitting the Trans tunnel.

Could I have flip flopped the Motor mounts and now have moved the motor forward a few inches. Is this possible? Because I was not even close on fit for the Taurus fan and after looking at the shift rod rebend project tonight, my last gear will not clear the tunnel.

Help me find an answer.

it does sound liek you swap the mounts from side to side. there is a left and right mount.

My Bell housing sticks out into the engine bay by about 2 1/2 inches. The strange thing is that the Trans cross member. (from Windsor-Fox) is in the exact place it should be and everything bolted down nicely. WTF?

I will have to get back to the forum Wed night. Heading up for a much needed ski day. Thanks for the input

Been there, done that!

I had the engine on the mounts and noticed my mistake when I tried to bolt up the tranny. Looking at it it should be obvious if you did the same.

The L & R mounts are the part that connects to the frame. The part that connects to the engine itself are the same and interchangeable.

The AOD is longer than the C4 isn't it? If this is true then the fact of the AOD bolting up correctly to the trans crossmember would tell you the engine mounts are incorrect.

The Windsor-Fox crossmember is made for this exact swap. There would be no other way to mount it.

Just got back from skiing and no energy to investigate it tonight. I will take a look in the morning.

Havack is right if you were using the original trans-mount, if you have the one for the swap then it could not happen. If you look at the photo I posted you'll see the gap caused by a correctly positioned AOD and an incorrectly installed (frame mounts swapped) Windsor.

I am no where near that far off the firewall. So what gives? This has been bugging me for quite some time, but now that I am getting close to the end of my "journey", and with all the adaptions I made with parts to get what I needed, I am puzzled. How many 5.0L EFI swappers actually had enough room to fit an Aluminum (2 1/2" thick) radiator and the Tarus or the like, fan? Not too big of a deal because I picked up a sweet looking Flex-a-lite Low Pro that works fine.

I have the W-F conversion 3 core radiator, AOD, the W-F trans mount, serpentine belt, EFI conversion and I had to do some serious trimming on the taurus fan to get it to fit. I also had to shave down the heads of the water pump bolts, but now it is clear... by about 3/16 inch....

Ok, sounds like I am on the money. I was going to grind down the pin on the front of the water pump, and then it would have fit (tarus fan) but some bright bulb on the forum suggested that if the water pump went out while I was away from home, I would be screwed. Even though slim I did not want to take the chance, with my luck...
