Anyone have any experience with the SCT Livewire kit yet ? I like the look of the little digital piece that you can mount in your car, and keep it there. Looks like a cool and handy thing to have.

Anyone with the 411 on this piece, please, feel free to speak up.

My friend just ordered one. I have heard that the first ones that came out were a little buggy. I wonder if they fixed the bugs yet?

Do you have a xcal2 already? If you do, you can buy the pro racer software for $375 and tune your car anytime you want. You'll never need a dyno tune again!

i got mine as soon as they came out. i have no complaints. some of the new features are nice, like the 0-60 and hp estimates. being able to use it as a guage is kinda cool too. what do you want to know?

Nope, I don't have the Xcal2, or any other tuning device for that matter. I was looking to get a good tuner, and something that will let me pull the OBD codes when/if the SES light flips on. So far, the this Livewire thing caught my attention because you can set it up like a guage in the car. Neat little device.

what do you want to know?

the livewire is nice but if you already have an xcal2 i wouldnt upgrade.
Sometimes i wish i wouldnt have sold my xcal2 for the livewire, dont get me wrong its a great product but i really enjoyed the xcal2 as it was basic and got the job done.

the only con is the price.

pros = datalogging, holding multiple tunes, being able to lightly moddify those tunes without the computer, shift light, warning light, performance stats, engine code reader, and the ability to monitor multiple items at once live.

i also had a question about the livewire. Ive read it can read a/f ratios but i believe i need a wideband of some sort to read it on the livewire itself??? anyone know where i could get this add on and if any1 has more info on top of what ive said so far would be helpful.

Yep, the livewire needs a wideband for A/F ratio. Most people use the LC-1. BTW: Email me at don@lasotaracing for details - I have a demo LiveWire (no warranty) new in the box available - and an LC-1 (used once or twice).

as Don said, you need a wideband. i have an LC-1 just like he talks about. but honestly, i haven't hooked it up to my Livewire yet. i had it hooked up to my Raptor when i had it. i've spent most of my time with my new Harley and have neglected my Mustang the last few months. the gas prices don't help either. 40mpg on the bike vs 17mpg in the Mustang. and they are about even in terms of speed.

where did u pick up the wideband at? online or from a shop? if online website?? let me know because im trying to pick mine up next week.

BUMP!! Im looking at getting one, i dont want 20 different gauges in my car. Any body used the different tunes yet, im going race gas tune and Pump.

I'm thinking about buying one too and have been reading the sct forum. They appear to be real buggy (i.e. loosing your factory flash). SCT is coming out with a new firmware update soon. I think i'll wait and follow the sct forum and see how the new firmware works first.

I was just speaking to my SCT dealer the other day and inquiring about the Livewire units and he won't even sell them. He did when they first came out but the problems associated with them were killing him. They were total junk according to him and he was having to foot the bill for shipping for the customer and again to SCT. He ended up losing money on them in the end. I'd personally stick with an XCal 2 if I were you. It (along with an appropriate Wide Band set up) will do everything you need anyway.

Wow! Thanks for the information! I am saddened to hear that what looked like an amazing product is having issues. What is SCT's plan? Are they going to correct the problems?

Do you have any specific examples of the problems?

SCT released the Livewire prematurely. in typical SCT fashion, they announced the features that they weren't able to live up to on time. problems with the Livewires are/were firmware related. as far as i know, the only issue left unresolved through firmware updates is the datalogging feature. they claim they will have that issue solved soon. the Livewire itself is like a computer. it's only going to run as well as the software thats on it. once the firmware is finalized and people update it, the Livewire will live up to the hype.
