loctite 5699 will be my 3rd try. This is a sealant specialy designed for water/glycol. Felpro gaskets just leaked all over the place, and still locating another leak after replacing felpro with a 0.5mm thicker, custom-made gasket.

You've got something else going on if Felpros and sealer are leaking. I've removed the waterpump bolts a dozen or more times on my 331's pump (experimenting with the alternator mount I made) and it's never leaked after retightening the bolts. Like maybe a bad timing cover
Unfortunately, I've been wraped up in other stuff, but tomorrow will try putting it together with "The Right Stuff". I'm really thinking that i didnt use enough rtv. It was tacky, but probably not thick enough to ensure there wasnt a crevice for coolant to leak out of. This time, im going to lay down a bead on both sides of the backing plate, and no gasket.
You shouldn't need an excessive amount like that. If the gap is that big its probably going to be a recurring problem. Get a straight edge on the parts and see where the issue is. Hell, I have no gasket sealant on mine and it doesn't leak.
The Right Stuff works very good though, my themostat housing was a POS and I always had issues with it leaking till I flat sanded it down.
Yup. they suck. lol It was the only thing available quick, engine was going in and I didnt have the right one. (needed a 90 degree angle one that pointed straight up.)
I use Gasgacinch to seal up these type gaskets. Make sure the surfaces are clean, apply the Gasgacinch to the gasket and surface, let dry, then apply the gasket. Repeat for the other side.
Never had a leakage issue using this stuff. It's sorta like a mild contact cement.
RTV is for intake manifold and oil pan corners. Yamabond is for motorcycle cases. Weatherstrip cement is for weatherstripping.
BTW only use it on the pan or valve cover side in those applications.
