Seam sealer and Rust Encap?

Just really getting started on my 65 coupe and I'm almost ready to start welding new metal on. My question is whether or not to bother with seam sealer underneath Rust Encapsulater/ POR 15? The car is just a C code with no options so it's getting a pro-tour treatment and I'm not concerned about period or factory correct. Thanks for your help!!

I treated the metal inside my cowl with Rust Encapsulater and then seam sealer on top of that for further protection of the joints. I then went over that with 2k epoxy.
If I was doing it again, I would use epoxy and then seam sealer on top of the epoxy

Hi,
In my mind , it's all about how thorough a job you want to do and in doing it right. If you sell it with no proper rust preventative, is that considered as the next owner's problem?
I'm a +1 for the previous respondent's advice.

Okay, so you're saying don't bother with the Rust Encap just use Seam Sealer then epoxy over that? What epoxy product did you use? Brand name etc...

I realize that you're probably trying to help but did you even read my question? It's going to get done right based on research and other builder's experience. I didn't ask how can I skimp by on it.

Never do as Ford did and put seam sealer on bare metal. The seam sealer will crack or loosen and let moisture get to the metal over time, allowing hidden rust to take hold.

Always use an epoxy primer first (which repels water) then apply the seam sealer.

I am a huge fan of SPI epoxy. 1/2 the price of the "Big Boys" products and just as good if not better. If there is not a "jobber" close to you to buy it from, SPI will ship it to your door for FREE.

It can also be applied with a brush if you can not spray it. Google it for more recommendations. Great stuff,

The SPI products seem like the right stuff to use. A body shop quality with great prices. It's really good to know that I can brush it on too. Spraying is out of the question in my two car garage. Over spray would be catastrophic for me. Thanks for the info!!
