I'm looking for a honest, not overpriced machine shop, anyone know of one in the phoenix area? If I call around, what should I ask for? I want to stay below $1000. Should I get the block hot tanked? Should I get all new hardware (arp)? Should I send them the short block? The heads are pretty fresh, I will have them checked out anyway. Ill probably go to a few today and check out some prices/have them inspect my engine. Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated

Ok i just called a place, they quoted me around 700 for, hot tank, all new bearings, Rebore to next oversize, rings, assembly (short block), inspection of the heads would be free, new hardware all around, Cam install, etc. Also has a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty. The only thing that got me was he said it would take around 2 business days to get done. Does that sound about right?

The price sounds good and the turn around sounds too good! Are they including rings in the 700 but not pistons? You'll need some if they bore to the next over size. I would want a specific list of what is included in his price and what you will be supplying. Good luck.

Ok this is what I got.... Boring to the next oversize, Honing, complete hot tank, resizing of connecting rods, grinding the crank, installing cam bearings, cleaning and assembling of entire shortblock, New pistons, piston rings, rod mains and cam bearings, camshaft, lifters, rear main seal, oil pump and complete timing set, $40 off for supplying my own cam (comp 268H) and a complete gasket set from carb to pan, all for the price of $696.75 after tax. I need to pick up a new timing cover because mine cracked somehow, and a harmonic balancer....anyone know where I can get these on the cheap, my timing cover is the one with the timing pointer bolted on, and i guess riveted on the top to the cover. Its for a Mexican 302 not sure of the year. Thanks guys

Mike

Ps I need a 28oz balancer correct?

Its the Mexican 302 probably a 70s engine? 28oz ?? I found a few timing covers on ebay, but they said they were off of 351s but would fit a 302. How do you go about replacing a dipstick? mine snapped at the very bottom, of the timing cover, and the one I looked at on ebay didnt have one....

Mike

I went to #1 engines its right off of priest. I will be going to lopers for my cam.

Mike

Does anyone know what pistons came with a stock mexican 302 forged, cast, hyper..... Its probably cast but some guy on ebay was claiming that a mexican 302 came stock with forged pistons....
