Ok so I've been trying to get as much info on what causes this forever now. It really only pops out when i try to down shift to second, but if i slow down to like 5-10 mph it won't pop out.?. It doesn't grind like a synchronizer but it will make a horrible noise like the gear itself is grinding if i try to hold it in while letting the clutch out above 5-10mph. If it pops out i just hit the clutch again and pop it back in second and it usually goes in smoothly but by that time i've already slowed down to like 5-10. Two other guys with foxs have told me they have the same problem, both guys said they think it has to do with the shifter, but then last night when i talked to one of them he said he got it fixed . He said that his shift fork was bent/broke/cracked (ONE of those, can't recall which one). Would the shift fork being messed up cause this problem? If so why only in second gear?

I thought i was going to have to buy a new tranny so i just bought a king cobra clutch and have been saving for a t5 z-spec, but if it could be something cheap and stupid like a shift fork i would rather do that because the tranny shifts good in all other gears and doesn't give me any other problems. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR EXPERIENCE WITH THIS PROBLEM WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

it wouldnt be a bad idea to get a new shift fork but, i would go ahead and keep the clutch and still save up for a tranny rebuild

Well i can get a t5 z-spec for $500 plus core, so I would do that before rebuilding my stock t5. I'm definatly keeping the clutch and i may go ahead and just buy a shift fork next week and pull my tranny and replace the clutch,pp,TOB,pilot bearing, and shift fork and see if that fixes it. My transmission guy said that it could be a bad pilot bearing, but i dunno about that.

Shift fork is the easy fix, but not as likely as damaged dog teeth on the 2nd gear and damaged 1-2 slider.

The dog teeth on the gear are shaped in such a way that "interlocks" them when the gear is fully engaged. A few hard clashes and the teeth become damaged to the point where they don't interlock anymore and can grind, clash or pop out of gear. Since it only does it on the downshift, the teeth are probably damaged on the coast side of the gear.

I doubt it's a shift fork as it would do it on the upshift as well.

Good info, but not what i wanted to hear lol.

Thanks for the help guys i guess I should just keep saving for a new tranny and go ahead and get a new shift fork for when the new tranny goes in.

You won't know 100% until you open and inspect the tranny, but based on my expeirence, it's a damaged gear/synchro slider.

That's exactly word for word what happened to my T-5. IMHO, just buy the t-5z or save for a tremec.
